What one thing has made the biggest difference to how you look?

I'm in my late 40s and I'm looking and feeling better than I have in years (possibly ever!)

I'm now wondering what else I can do to keep going in this direction - to keep improving with age.

What's the one thing you've done or do that you think makes the biggest positive difference to the way you look?

I'm struggling to answer this myself tbh! I'd suspect it's a combo of being happy and fulfilled (quite a change from being the stressed out workaholic control freak that I was!), 18:6 fasting and a plant-based diet... but who knows really?!

Joans3rddaughter - I would really benefit from that. But I'd be far too scared to have surgery around my eyes in case it went wrong Confused

Thank you onetime. I realised that my curiosity made me sound like I was barking those questions at you! Blush

Velveteenfruitbowl · 24/10/2019 06:59

A blow dry makes the biggest difference for me. When I can be bothered. Which is not often.

mrsjackrussell · 24/10/2019 07:12

Having eyebrows and eyeliner tattoos. I had Hardy any eyebrows and feel so much better. The eyeliner is really natural and makes eyelashes look thicker.

Giving up tea, coffee and alcohol. Drinking water has given me beautiful skin. Exercising five times a week with lots of stretching. Keeping to a good weight. All helps.

onetimeonlyy · 24/10/2019 07:29

@SirProjectofThigh haha not at all! They are a mysterious thing!

KatharinaRosalie · 24/10/2019 09:45

If your face is saggy, after weight loss or otherwise, just 1ml of filler makes a massive difference.

minipie · 24/10/2019 12:34

@Joans3rddaughter, I’ve been wondering about blepharoplasty (lower). Can you give an indication of costs as all the surgeons’ websites are very coy about this? Also do the effects last?

ZaZathecat · 24/10/2019 12:53

The menopause - and not in a good way!

Buddyelf · 24/10/2019 13:06

@imoverworkedandunderpaid what primer do you use?

For me - losing weight. Recently lost 2.5 stone (still have 1.5 to go) but my word I feel like a different person. I don't feel like the 'fat' one anymore and my confidence has skyrocketed. This has translated in me taking more care of everything else, I bother with my hair now - no more scragged up buns - I take care with my makeup, I buy more and use it more and experiment with it and I feel great.
I'm honestly excited to get to my goal weight and feel better again.

Brows. I think brows can make or break a face. Well maintained and going with your natural colouring but a few shades darker. Ditch the arch and have them straight, Korean style. None of that ponsey ombre, imstagram shit that 15 year old girls get SO wrong!

Water - lots of it as you can get dehydration wrinkles which disappear after drinking llts of water. Ditching energy drinks for me as they made my skin break out into a strange septic rash almost like burns on my face through going through 3-6 a day.

A tan.

lasttimeround · 24/10/2019 16:01

A full length mirror. Looking at whole outfit including coat and shoes. Taking photo to help me look more. Considering what works and what doesnt, while being nice to myself. Over time I've worked out gaps, issues wants and preferences.
Also getting my colours done.
I'm about 7 years in from taking an active interest in how I dress.. My friends and colleagues think of me as well dressed and naturally stylish. Except my old old friends who ask me how this transformation happened Grin
It makes me happy to look good and like me. I think that shows.

I was 45 years old when I had the upper blepharoplasty done (I didn't need a lower). I had it done under Local Anaesthetic withour sedation in a private hospital by a Cosmetic Surgeon who also is a Consultant in a large NHS teaching hospital. The procedure took approx 45 mins. I was charged £2000. That was the total cost for the Surgeon, theatre time and all care as a day patient. It was the best £2000 I have ever spent. In doesn't stop the aging process but it delays it. I asked my Surgeon for something quite subtle. I sometimes see poeple on TV or in real life that have had it done with very poor result because It looks to me like its been "overdone" I am an expert at spotting who's had it done. I was very nervous on the day and very worried for the first few days post op but after around 4 days I started to see the effect. I went back to work after 2 weeks annual leave with a little bit of bruising and the skin wss quite red. Usually I wore contact lenses then but started to wear my glasses a couple of weeks before the op do peolle were used to seeing me in glasses and they hid the bruising (with a bit of make up). Hope this helps any body considering it.

Joans3rddaughter · 24/10/2019 17:28

Sorry for the terrible spelling. It didn't affect my eyesight btw!

sheshootssheimplores · 24/10/2019 17:57

I completely forgot I also had a forehead and upper eyelid lift and completely agree it was bloody amazing!! So good I’d do another in the future once it starts to drop again.

readingismycardio · 24/10/2019 18:04

This thread is amazing-taking notes

For me:
-Acids for the skin-retinol
-never washing my hair at home (I have a blowdry monthly package)
-short nails (always nude, light pink, red or burgundy)
-regular dentist appointments

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 24/10/2019 18:15

I hired a personal trainer, lost six stones of fat and put on a lovely amount of muscle. Fat at 40; fit at 50 Blush

This was my 40's regime for a couple of years, but it sort of did a number on my hair.

Nice! I'm so impressed! Go you!

Phoebesgift · 24/10/2019 19:15

A really decent haircut and perfectly blended blonde balayage.

MadameForest · 24/10/2019 20:40

Sport. I run every day, swim and cycle at least twice a week even though it means getting up very early. I like being fit, look a lot younger and can eat more than que be able to otherwise. Exercise also helps reduce the effects of menopause. I'm 53, last period 2 years ago and no problems with the menopause at all. OTOH spending so much time outside doesn't help with lines on the face!

Lhastingsmua · 24/10/2019 20:47

If I’m being honest, filler.

I only had subtle changes though. I had a bit of chin filler to diminish my chin dimple, it wasn’t that bad but would look very apparent in certain lighting. The filler also makes my face/jaw look more consistent in shape too by making my chin look less weak.

Lessthanzero · 24/10/2019 20:53
