What one thing has made the biggest difference to how you look?

I'm in my late 40s and I'm looking and feeling better than I have in years (possibly ever!)

I'm now wondering what else I can do to keep going in this direction - to keep improving with age.

What's the one thing you've done or do that you think makes the biggest positive difference to the way you look?

I'm struggling to answer this myself tbh! I'd suspect it's a combo of being happy and fulfilled (quite a change from being the stressed out workaholic control freak that I was!), 18:6 fasting and a plant-based diet... but who knows really?!

OP posts:

Eyelash extensions 🙌🏼🙌🏼

Floisme · 22/10/2019 11:16

The realisation that I will never, ever nail this dressing business because my body will never stop changing. Keep moving - that's literally and figuratively.

KatharinaRosalie · 22/10/2019 11:17

Weighlifting. My arms, legs and backside look better than 20 years ago.

chrispenrallt1 · 22/10/2019 11:18

I run now which I think has made a big difference to me. Also a well fitting bra. I went to a small lingerie shop not too far away from me and my goodness what a revelation that was!

SuperSange · 22/10/2019 11:21

Clean, neat nails. Not necessarily polish on them, but tidy.
Neat brows.
Good haircut.good bra. It takes pounds off and gives you a proper shape.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 22/10/2019 11:26

Enough sleep and weightlifting bring about obvious, healthy changes in your appearance.

WhineUp · 22/10/2019 11:28

5st weight loss
Fillers
Weight training
Wigs.

Zenithbear · 22/10/2019 11:28

Sorting and whitening my teeth.
Staying slim and active.
Not smoking or drinking heavy.
Being sociable-means you make the effort, have lots of laughs and good times.

AppropriateAdult · 22/10/2019 11:30

Working out what colours really suit me and now only buying clothes in those shades. Game changer.

notacooldad · 22/10/2019 11:32

I love the question is what one thing made a difference and people post about 5 different things!!

Mine is losing the weight I put on.

Lisette1940 · 22/10/2019 11:34

Taking notes here!

MelGrange · 22/10/2019 11:38

Teeth whitening and regular (6 monthly clean and polish).

Keep hair longish and have golden highlights round the hairline and centre parting.

Keep to a decent size / weight and follow trends to a certain extent - I still wear mini skirts but wouldn’t wear them without tights.

Tidy but natural looking tinted eyebrows.

Sleep! My skin is much less forgiving of a late night now. Same with hydration. I drink a lot of water and herbal teas but hardly any alcohol (unless I can hide the next day).

OP "I'm in my late 40s and I'm looking and feeling better than I have in years (possibly ever)"

May I ask what you've been doing?

I was all right till 41, then my face fell in like a soufflé.

ReadyPayerTwo · 22/10/2019 11:42

Ooh placemarking with interest!

TightPants · 22/10/2019 11:58

@WhineUp I’m interested in wigs.
My perimenopausal hair is getting thinner (it was already very fine)
Can I ask where you buy yours?

WhineUp · 22/10/2019 12:02

@TightPants - depends what you want really! I get mine made for me by a wig tech, human hair. She also bleaches knots and plucks the parting and hairline for me for a very natural look. If you're getting a wig, make sure it's a lace one, they blend seamlessly. Then again, my wigs are expensive. I wear mine just cause I like to change up my look frequently.

You can also get much cheaper synthetic lace fronts - but you Have to pluck and thin them to make them look less 'wiggy'. It can totally be done - many wig wearers prefer synthetic hair as it's less maintenance, cheaper, and a good synthetic looks incredibly realistic, but it's the whole thinning and plucking and whatnot that I just can't be arsed to do.

The lace matters too. I had some cheaper wigs that had a horrible thick scratchy lace that felt really uncomfortable, but then my real hair wigs have the most softest, transparent lace that causes zero discomfort. :)

WhineUp · 22/10/2019 12:03

Can give you my wig tech's details. ;) She's really good, and a bit cheaper than others, but for a good quality wig you're looking at 120 quid or more, depending on hair colour, length, etc.

YummyBelicious · 22/10/2019 12:30

I'm trying to shift some pounds as that definitely helps but I have in the last month started putting savlon on my face every night before bed, with an eye cream. My skin has honestly never looked better

catlady3 · 22/10/2019 12:35

Lifting weights. Lifts...well, everything really.

Geppili · 22/10/2019 12:36

Taking Oil of Evening Primrose oil.

managedmis · 22/10/2019 13:03

Losing three stone n a low carb diet.

Due to this I :

Look taller
Face is more defined
Skin is better
Hair looks thicker
I can wear cool clothes, rather than hiding all my lumps.
Makes me look younger

purpleleotard · 22/10/2019 13:05

I lost 25Kg.
Best ever

Bluntness100 · 22/10/2019 13:28

Celeriacacaca , it's basically a cream, put it on under your foundation, and it kind of shines through, makes you look really radiant and lit up. It's honestly really astonishing the difference.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 22/10/2019 13:35

CACI facial.

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 22/10/2019 13:35

Weight loss for me too but it's coming a close first with dressing better. I make time to try clothes on, keep up to date with trends and buy better quality fabrics.
