Hello. I'm always on the hunt for warm, spicy patchouli-ish strong scents and have remembered my aunt wearing this one. I like cinnabar but reviews state that it's been changed and isn't as strong and I have boots points burning a hole in my pocket. What do you think of youth dew? Your personal descriptions would be appreciated too. Tia

I was given a set ages ago and, whilst I found the acturl scent a little heave, the body lotion was lovely to wear.

Personally I adore Youth Dew, but it can be dividive. The modern wave of sweetness in perfume means that the magnificent aldehydes and spices of the 70s and 80s get overlooked a bit. FWIW, give Cinnabar another go. I think it's almost the same as it ever was and almost all fragrances had to have a bit of an update with IFRA regulations, some sublte, some less so. It's a gamble. You might also like Aromatics Elixir, YSL Opium (not Black Opium, it's very different) and even Shalimar Souffle.

My favourite patchouli-ish perfume is Cabochard by Gres. It’s like a hug in a bottle. I loathe Youth Dew but admittedly that’s down to association.

@Alsohuman Good call! Cabochard is fantastic! Hard to get in shops, but readily available online.

Back in the 1970’s our manager dragged his desk yards away from a colleague when she wore Youth Dew !

Well I had a spray of a tester and loved it. Just my kind of fragrance. Got a great deal on it too as it was £42 for the perfume and £46 for the same size perfume with a body lotion. For me it's the perfect winter scent, it smells woodsy and mossy and smoky to me. Reminds me of the way aromatics used to smell before it lost its staying power. Love it

Well I think you smell fantastic. Youth Dew is stunning. Mae West wore it in her later years.

Thanks for your input missbattleaxe I always enjoy reading your posts. Just hope it has the elusive staying power that so many perfumes lack nowadays

Thanks @Bluesheep8. It will definitely have staying power!

Reporting back...applied copious amounts of the body lotion and a very generous spray of the perfume this morning, including some on my scarf.....and an hour later.....nothing! Why oh why don't fragrances last like they used to? I know it's not just me as I asked DP what he thought of it having just sprayed it and he said he really liked it. Asked him an hour later and he said he couldn't smell it at all, even close up Confused

I love Youth Dew. It was my mum's favourite perfume and I wear it whenever I need to be reminded of her. It's a cracker, but it does divide opinions and you need a gentle hand with it. Lots of people loathe it but you should ignore them, it's an absolute classic, up there with the best of the old Diors and Guerlains, imo.

It lasts ages on me so not sure why you'd be having problems with longevity, though. If anything, it tends to outstay its welcome a little Grin

Ithinkwerealonenowtiffany · 22/10/2019 21:04

Ah Youth Dew. Reminds me of my grandma 💕

lasttimeround · 24/10/2019 13:49

I love it. Wear the bath oil though as a perfume. Lasts forever and just a dab. I think you and dh went scent blind. Theres no way a generous waft of Youth Dew plus moisturizer cant be smelt an hour later.
