I am having a surprise party for my new husband. Will be the first time I meet his old friends. They are all loaded and work in a pretty cool industry. It’s in a garden venue in a big tent with a rock band. I am early 50’s, ok on top, veins over the legs, bit of a tummy. Size 12/14.

How the bloody hell do I dress for this? I want to dance , be a hot wife, look expensive, look like a I haven’t over dressed and yet be “on trend“ all In the middle of winter.

Appatentlyyou need to start with shoes? I was thinking patent boots of do e description?

QuaterMiss that’s a fabulous look but I am both too short and too poor. I have many trousers similar to theirs though.

I am 5’ 4” and I like a pattern but it has to work - I find bigger is better.

Rethinking the jeans now though....

This top would also work with blue jeans

The boots are fab, do you have any straight legged or wide legged trousers or jeans? There are lots of blouse options ... Does red work for you colouring wise? I'm sure I've seen a faux fur teddy bomber jacket. ..hang on

I think the leopard/rose shirt would work best with those boots. And both urban outfitters and Roxy have a fur bomber

Those joe browns links are awful.

The rose leopard shirt is pretty funky!

Catchytune · 20/10/2019 16:43

Yes to the fur bomber, it’s just what I need anyway. I like those velvet boots too actually, although people are right about flats or DM’s.
Not keen on the tops, maybe wrong side of bohemian ...I have tons of Desigual but I’m thinking it looks old now ( although some if it of it is still lovely).

Thanks all. I’m going to look for a killer red blouse of some description. I like both of yours hettie although can’t imagine me in them. Where are they from?

Maybe look for a Vivienne Westwood dress 2nd hand?

Those Joe B tunics are really horrible imvho

Bloomburger · 20/10/2019 16:58

Leather leggings, tux blazer and plain black vest/cami?

Bloomburger · 20/10/2019 17:01

blazer top with red lipstick and silver jewellery.

milliefiori · 20/10/2019 17:12

That rose leopard blouse is fabulous and would work with the boots and leather jeans you already have, surely. That to me looks like an outfit you didn't try too hard to put together but is funky and sexy and relaxed and individual and stylish. Strong colour is good.

milliefiori · 20/10/2019 17:13

@hettie where is that blouse from?

hettie · 20/10/2019 17:21

The one with roses is from here www.hawesandcurtis.co.uk/womens-brown-and-red-rose-leopard-fitted-satin-blouse-single-cuff-pussy-bow-ludzw011-c18 sorry can't remember the other one but a quick Google of red leopard/ruffles/pussy bow might get you something similar. So... your existing boots, killer red blouse, fur bomber and....what trousers? I like the way they've styled the boots with trousers here www.lkbennett.com/product/SAMAJAHAIRCALFSUEDEMultiNatural%20Mint~Maja-Calf-Hair-Suede-Ankle-Boots-Leopard%20print There is a bit of a gap and the trousers look to be classy wool/straight legged maybe slightly tapered. You could do the same with rolled up jeans (mom jeans could do it but they are quite relaxed and it doesn't sound your style).

hettie · 20/10/2019 17:26

Sorry, I see you already have leather jeans. If the killer blouse is a bit much could you do a camel leopard print polo neck. Might be a bit too clingy for boobs and tummy though....

Catchytune · 20/10/2019 17:58

The problem with the gap between boots and jeans is my stumpy legs. I’m really going to have find the right shape trouser.

However thanks to the pp I am now salivating over Vivenne Westwood on eBay. It’s the downside to getting good advice on here, gives you ideas.

hettie · 20/10/2019 18:16

Yeah, Vivienne Westwood would be brilliant wonders off to get all misty eyed

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 20/10/2019 18:25

This with a biker jacket or your bomber jacket?

hettie · 20/10/2019 18:29

Oh dear....yes to ideas ...Have now decided my next occasion outfit must be ruched tartan with those hush boots (inspired by Vivienne)
