I want a coat like this

It can’t find one.
I like the length, colour (or a paler grey, just not too black/dark) and the button/belt style.

Everywhere I look, I’m only finding cats that button in a masculine way, like one or two single buttons at the waist, in a long column shape.

I don’t mind a cocoon shape but the boxy masculine cut really doesn’t suit me, I’m slim build and 5’4.

I ordered a dogtooth coat from Toast but sent it back as it was too dark and large.

Oh and I love this whole look, if anyone knows where I can get boots like that I’d be chuffed!

Apologies for the bloody awful spelling, it’s the iPad, it’s drunk again.

What's your budget? How about this - £88 from asos? www.asos.com/prd/11785393

Musicforsnorks · 19/10/2019 14:13

Thanks fingermoose! I really want some wool content though, at least 60%.
I’ve got a similar one from Zara and it d0esnt keep me warm. Sad

Do you want the belted fit and flare shape or the flecked tweed or both? You may need to look at petites for it to fit properly.
There are a lot of lovely tweedy and checked coats at Massimo Dutti: www.massimodutti.com/gb/women/collection/coats/view-all/flecked-coat-with-quilted-detail-c911124p8702634.html?colorId=800&categoryId=911124

Musicforsnorks · 19/10/2019 14:31

@quickkimchi oooh I’d forgotten about massimo d.
Will have a look!
Yes, tweedy, or Boucle, not too fussy so long as it’s not flat colour.

Thank you!

Just had a look, the massimo coats are the nicest I’ve seen so far, but unfortunately mostly straight cut with the masculine style buttons.

There’s one or two gorgeous belted ones in wrong colours.

I do hate coat hunting!

Sorry OP I read the post but then kind of flaked on what you'd said you were looking for. I think petite sizing will get you the fit you want, it's just that your choices will be limited. Also maybe try looking at vintage, where you might find more fitted shapes as well as sizes to suit a smaller frame.

I know what you mean about a warm coat too, it's increasingly hard to weed out what is essentially a big felt cardigan masquerading as a coat.

This gets you part of the way there, though the fabric is less textured and gorgeous than your photo: www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_33678+79308242_-1

Musicforsnorks · 19/10/2019 14:40

Thanks @quickkimchi
I do want below knee so petite might not work, but only high street stores seem to offer petite?
They’re all polyester.

I originally had this from toast and sent it back - I felt the colour washed me out (pale blonde) but it was so so so perfect, although I would have had to get it shortened s few inches at hem.

I’m honestly tempted to rebuy it

I'm far from petite (tall 12-14) but I have a similar problem with masculine cuts. I just love a fitted coat with a waist and a sweeping length but it has to fit properly.
Jigsaw have some gorgeous tweedy and checked coats (if you have the budget for it). I find the fit quite generous but not really tall/large proportions (for example I find their trousers far too short-waisted for me) so maybe you can size down for a tidier fit. www.jigsaw-online.com/category/womens/coats-jackets

50s or 70s true vintage princess coats (have a look on Etsy.com) might be the best way to go. Reasonably priced (at least the 70s ones are) and the right kind of style and decent wool/cashmere materials. It is where I have found many of mine which are similar!

quickkimchi · 19/10/2019 14:47

Oh gosh, that's pretty gorgeous. Any chance you can size down or will that be too tight?
I'd recommend alterations for something that is otherwise perfect but a coat may be costly to alter. (Just a hem should be fine though.)

Letthemysterybe · 19/10/2019 14:49

I like this shop.mango.com/gb/women/coats-coats/herringbone-flecked-coat_41060699.html

quickkimchi · 19/10/2019 14:50

Sigh yes! Like this coveted Jill Clayburgh number in An Unmarried Woman.
Some of my best coats are vintage. So stylish! They can be very heavy though.

Musicforsnorks · 19/10/2019 14:54

@letthemysterybe wow that is a gorgeous coat, pity wool content is low but I’d forgive that it’s so lovely! There are a few I love at mango but they’re either unline (double-faced, reversible doesn’t impress me, it’s just another way of saying you’ll freeze for £140 or more) Hmm

Their designs are perfect though!

@sigh81 I’ve been scouring eBay, not much luck yet but keep looking!

@quickkimchi yes just the hem, the uk6 otherwise fit well on shoulders and waist, just a tiny touch loose on chest (I’m small) but can fit a good woolly under it .

Musicforsnorks · 19/10/2019 14:57

I want that flipping mango coat and it’s out of stock!
But I know it wouldn’t keep me warm enough.

Gorgeous @quickkimchi.

@Musicforsnorks Etsy is very different to ebay and much better for vintage tbh. The American vintage shops on Etsy seem to have better midcentury stuff.

mistermagpie · 19/10/2019 17:14

I have this coat from oasis, it's very close to what you describe - fit and flair style, wool, tweedy etc and feminine.

It's a few years old but you can pick them up on eBay now.

Thanks both!
I always worry about customs charges on Etsy.
I once bought a cd and had to pay triple to pick it up .

Ooh, just found this from mango
Low wool content and can’t see if it is lined but I really resembles the coat on my OP

I've got this, it's lovely and warm.

musicmum75 · 19/10/2019 18:09

Not a cheap option but try Joseph Cheaney for similar boots.

Musicforsnorks · 19/10/2019 18:13

@Yellowtulips33 I really love this one too, thank you! Brilliant find.

@musicmum75 I’m trying to sell, some Cheaney brogues right now Grin amazing shoes but I never wear them. I’m going to look now, probably find a perfect boot and then cry !

PhonicTheHedgehog · 19/10/2019 18:16

Could you re-buy the Toast coat and wear it with a fine cashmere type scarf at the neck in a colour that suits you?

musicmum75 · 19/10/2019 18:36

I love Joseph Cheaney boots! I have two pairs and have to restrain myself from buying more!! I hope that they will last forever though.
