Help me find a dress for my 50th

Pleeeeease? I have two weeks to get something organised. Party in a private room of a pub so not overly dressy but want to look nice. I'm a size 14 with a bit of a belly but decent legs so don't mind short-ish. I need a petite size because of my height. Was looking at this but I don't know if it's dressy enough....don't really want to spend more than about 50 or 60 quid.

I find Wallis are big fitting so it might be worth trying a 12!

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 18/10/2019 14:32

Thanks I may give that a try.

Lovely dress. That would be ideal if you have good legs. Agree that Wallis comes up large.

sableandI · 18/10/2019 14:37

Lovely dress but I'd go dressy. After all it's your birthdayyyyyy Smile

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 18/10/2019 14:49

That dress is dressy for me - I'm a jeans and a nice top kinda person! Are we talking sequins and sparkle?!

I have the size 12 in my shopping bag.......

I'd go dressy to. Why not - it's not every day you have a 50th party. I would go for a teal or magenta satiny cocktail dress. Obviously depending on your colouring.

More like this: www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/prod_10701_10001_61252+284129_-1 sorry I don't have time to see if they do it in petite. You deserve to be the centre of attention - the one everyone notices. Have a fab time.

FreeStar · 18/10/2019 14:58

Press go! I think it's fab! And you'll be able to wear it all winter dressed down with opaques and chunky boots afterwards!

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 18/10/2019 15:05

I do have my wedding Jimmy Choos which are a natural colour which would go really well with it and would dress it up a bit.

I'm blonde, BTW. Would need fake tan on the legs!

The Wallis dress is great and could definitely be dressed up or down.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 18/10/2019 16:32

Thanks all, have ordered it and am just hoping I can squeeze into a 12!

Liked it so much I was hoping they did it in regular sizes ie not petite...

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 19/10/2019 08:23

They have this in regular which is similar.

I think it's a great choice - lovely.

Forgottenwhatsleepis · 24/10/2019 09:08

My mum is in her 50s with "a bit of a belly" but petite with amazing legs and usually dresses in jeans, and I'd say the first one as well! If your worried about your "belly" (but I think the print will distract from it) you could get tummy control underwear?

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 24/10/2019 16:58

Hey all, so the dress has arrived and it fits and is flattering (but good tip re the tummy control pants!) I now have a shoe dilemma. My options are:-

Bare legs (with fake tan/leg make-up) and nude Jimmy Choo sandals OR

Black tights with heeled black boots

My daughter (16) says boots.

We are going to need a pic to make an informed decision!

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 24/10/2019 22:19

Aaarghh that means I'll have to shave my legs and fake tan and everything!!

OP posts:
smemorata · 24/10/2019 22:22

In November? I'm saying no to bare legs.

Miniloso · 24/10/2019 22:47

Bare legs for a party 🥳

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 25/10/2019 08:04

I'll be home to pub in taxi and vice versa, no chance to get cold.
