Are these too small? Am I too large?

Basically, does my arse look big in this!! Asking because I kind of like them, but they feel a bit tight in the front even though there's a gap of 2finger widths between my back and the waistband, so surely the next size up would fall down? and I don't want to be a 14

So, mumsnet stylists, are they wearable?

(They are properly black, but I lightened the photos so you can see the detail on screen)

Right, I shall send them back. I can't see if I can squat in them because I can't crouch down right now. I can't wear my jeans because I've recently had an operation and they rub on the scar, that's why I need something from a softer material. But none of my pre-DC cords fit. I'm down to one pair of trousers and they need a wash!

Perhaps you need a more curvy style and these are more of a straight style Can you recommend a brand?

I'm 8-10 up top depending on shop. I have never yet managed to find a dress or tunic top that fits properly!

They clearly fit.

Sooverthemill · 15/10/2019 15:14

I don't think you need to send them back! Genuinely think they look good. If you can sit down in them and they're comfortable, keep them

AthollPlace · 15/10/2019 15:16

Can you recommend a brand?
I find M&S jeans are a good fit for curvy shapes. FWIW those ones aren’t too bad, but if they feel a bit uncomfortable it’s worth shopping around.

sheshootssheimplores · 15/10/2019 16:21

Don’t send them back!! They look great on you!!!!!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 15/10/2019 16:29

Yes they look ok in the photos, but "but they feel a bit tight in the front even though there's a gap of 2finger widths between my back and the waistband" - it's the OP that has to wear them! Why settle for something that doesn't fit you properly?

Branster · 15/10/2019 16:38

You have a very nice figure and shouldn’t worry about how big your bum might look Smile
My personal view is that if you don’t feel 100% great in them, don’t keep them.
They do look a bit too uncomfortably tight on hips and at the front so you might find them uncomfortable after a few hours, unless they have some stretch.
I get a gap at the back with some jeans and wearing a belt doesn’t actually give a very nice look for me so I never keep these even if they are spot on elsewhere. I think you can get them altered but I never bothered.
I so get your comment about tight trousers (jeans included) without back pockets! Although I don’t have a size problem, I simply feel naked without back pockets when wearing jeans or tight leather trousers, it looks indecent to me. Although I don’t notice it in other people. I bought t was just something in my head but obviously I’m not the only one.
No VPL pants are great, you can get short hipster styles in lots of colours but the downside is they are not 100% cotton. Find in any shop from Tesco and Sainsbury’s, Next, department stores everywhere.

Ellapaella · 15/10/2019 17:17

You have a lovely figure and they do fit but personally I don't think the visible pant line looks good, sorry.

goose1964 · 15/10/2019 19:40

That's my problem with trousers. I find them awfully uncomfortable with the gap at the back. I can put a tennis ball between me and the trousers at the back and barely do them up at the front.

Do you like them enough to put up with discomfort? They don't make your bum look huge BTW

KellyHall · 15/10/2019 19:48

Are they comfu though?

If they are, keep them.

If they're not, get the next size up abd get an alteration done on the bits that then aren't quite right.

Life's too short for uncomfortable clothes!

myidentitymycrisis · 15/10/2019 19:55

If it were me, I would reject them for being a tiny bit small.
But I am a perfectionist.

I have a flat boys bum and also would love to be more curvy in that area.

motortroll · 15/10/2019 20:03

They look great. You look great, who cares what size you are or might be though, you look lovely and toned!

managedmis · 15/10/2019 20:20

You need either no or different underwear
shockshock People don't actually go out wearing no underwear do they?

^^

It has been known. Heathens on MN, you know

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 15/10/2019 20:49

I don't think they are cut for your figure-these would suit an apple shape more. They are pulling across the bum/hips giving you cat's whiskers and your underwear shows. I am with others- try high waisted ones that are everywhere at the moment- or those paperbag style ones.

banivani · 16/10/2019 07:05

I agree with those who said they fit badly, but this has nothing to do with your size. It does indeed look like the size up would be too big. This size should fit you, but they're not cut for you. Incidentally I do not rate Esprit at all in terms of cut. Everything I've ever tried on there has fit badly. (I did however have a colleague who loved them, so horses courses etc)

You have a great figure OP but I don't think they fit you well.

They're too snug on the waist and too loose on the leg. The bum fits perfectly.

NightsOfCabiria · 16/10/2019 14:06

I concur with others that Esprit is cut for straight, not curvy figures as I get my clothes from there. I am straight of thigh and bum so I bet they'd fit me (I have others which are similar but a little more high waisted).

NightsOfCabiria · 16/10/2019 14:08

Hi OP, suitable shops for a curvy figure are:

SilkFred
Boden
Hobbs
Monsoon
River Island

BlackTrousers · 16/10/2019 15:26

Thanks for all the tips and (unwarranted) compliments. Sadly, after a few months of bed rest, my muscles are rather non-existent than toned, but that will hopefully change!
I had a quick look in the three main shops in town today. Nothing. Two had bootcut trousers but only jeans. I've ordered some so shall no doubt come to ask your opinion when they arrive Grin

banivani I have some summer trousers from Esprit which is why I was hopeful these would work, but it's true, I don't tend to fit any of their trousers.

StarlightLady · 16/10/2019 16:28

I think they are a good fit. No VPL knix are not invisible in my view. I would go for a thong. But if you don’t want to, what’s the big deal? All VPL means is that you have knickers on. No one worries about bra bumps showing, so I really don’t think it matters.

BlackTrousers · 22/10/2019 10:14

Are these better?

OP posts:
Tippexy · 22/10/2019 10:15

Back for more! Hmm

BlackTrousers · 22/10/2019 10:28

Yes, I sent the others back and ordered some more. Except they didn't have black so my name is kind of pointless now!

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 22/10/2019 11:01

Are they from Esprit as well? They look quite baggy, are they meant to be skinny or straight or what shape? And they do still look like they are pulling across the front imo.

FWIW I'm actually wearing a pair of black skinny trousers today (not cords though!) - they are from Asos and are pretty high waisted and very stretchy with a button/zip fly like jeans have. They fit me very well with no gaping and I think my hip/waist ratio is bigger than yours.
