I do like the print but worried it looks a it frumpy on me as not as svelte as the model? Can it be made cool?

I think it's quite frumpy even on the model. But then Boden is hardly cutting edge fashion so it depends what you're looking for.

Do you like the style of the skirt or are you just swayed because you like the print? Trying to understand what look you're going for then maybe we can help you?

FantailsFly · 14/10/2019 18:31

Knee high boots under that length skirt looks contemporary. Alternatively ankle boots and opaque tights. Not sure about what to wear on top half though - maybe someone else will be along to complete the look. I’m thinking volume on top ... Nice skirt btw!

nevernotstruggling · 14/10/2019 18:34

I think it's frumpy sorry

fishladder · 14/10/2019 18:38

Well Would wear for work so want to lol smart but also a bit glam. Thinking navy or black satin blouse??

It’s pretty frumpy imo. Think you need to go very sexy or high fashion to balance it out.
Patent boots? Slightly cropped top?

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 14/10/2019 18:41

I like it, I don’t think it looks frumpy but I don’t like how it’s styled on the model the shoes in particular are horrendous, I agree with pp you need long boots underneath to make it contemporary, I think ankle boots and skirts are hard to pull of unless you have long legs, although the pics I have posted are a different shape skirt I think Kate looks great in the tartan long boots combo.

It’s a pencil skirt.... it’s classic not frumpy at all. I would be channelling Vivienne Westwood depending on how far you want to go. A graphic print t shirt and block heeled knee boots.

Divebar · 14/10/2019 18:56

Alternatively an oversized black sweater and ankle boots. Have a look on Pinterest under “ plaid pencil skirt outfit”.... there are loads of ideas.

ConFusion360 · 14/10/2019 19:16

Raise the hemline by three feet?

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/10/2019 20:05

Don't wear it?

Atalune · 14/10/2019 20:09

Wide legged black flat boots or block heel boots. Think a late 70s/early 80s look.

Or if you’re leggy, then some little buckled up black ankle boots.

Then a fine gauge oversized jumper in maybe navy, black, teal, or even a minty green would look nice. Grey too.

feelingsinister · 14/10/2019 20:11

Knee high boots are definitely not the way to stop that skirt being frumpy, ankle boots would be better if anything but it is quite a frumpy skirt.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/10/2019 20:20

Gawd, I hate the word 'frumpy'.

Agree that it could potentially be very Westwood. Heeled ankle boots and a fitted but not too clingy black jumper would work well.

Or yes to buckled boots, which could also be very Westwood. Or little black pixie boots.

BubblesBuddy · 14/10/2019 20:23

All the skirts like this, midi pencil skirts, are styled with long boots at Zara! They know the time of day regarding style. They have several tartan midi skirts so it’s on trend. Of course you could wear ankle boots or kitten heels. It’s not frumpy - it’s a skirt for winter 2019-20. If you look, there are lots like this.

Long boots, good quality shirt or cashmere and a big coat! What’s not to like?

BubblesBuddy · 14/10/2019 20:24

Who wears Vivienne Westwood now? No one under 50!

CmdrCressidaDuck · 14/10/2019 20:26

This site is really bizarre on fashion sometimes. It's not frumpy - it's a tartan midi length pencil skirt. It's entirely current. The heels Boden have styled it with aren't particularly an up-to-date look but the skirt in itself isn't frumpy at all.

Wear with boots as advised by PP.

Moominfan · 14/10/2019 20:28

I really like it. Would wear it with a cropped leather jacket and dr martens

Joans3rddaughter · 14/10/2019 20:28

You can't. It's awful

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/10/2019 20:30

Bubbles - your post is intending to help the OP how?

Moominfan · 14/10/2019 20:31

More fool them. truffles before pigs

Divebar · 14/10/2019 21:05

Ha ha ha. I love it..... yes OP make it a tartan mini skirt because that’s soooooooo..... ahem “ on trend” Hmm

Riverviews · 14/10/2019 22:32

I was in H&M in London's Oxford Street yesterday and it was full of tartan, so i think it's quite on trend this year.

I would wear that skirt with high ankle boots and a fitted black top

user1471504234 · 15/10/2019 04:06

I think if you wore a blouse you’d have to tuck it in, and a satin blouse would not stay tucked in, it would ride up and not look neat. So for work I’d probably go for a tight black scoop or polo neck and some interesting boots

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 15/10/2019 07:16

Yes to a poloneck if your workplace is a sensible temperature, rather than hotter than Jarvis Cocker's underpants like mine.

emilybrontescorsett · 15/10/2019 07:20

I'd wear a black blouse or top. Opaque tights and black loafers.
