Has anyone had lip fillers before?

I was just wondering if anybody out there has had lip fillers and what experiences they have with them please?

I'm thinking of getting a very small amount just to give my lips a little bit more shape and volume, I do not want huge fake lips but just a bit more shape. I know many people who've had them and look amazing and very natural, you would never have said they had had filler.

I was thinking of just getting 0.5ml but was wondering if this would be too little and a waste of money or if it would be better to get 1ml?

It depends on your current lip shape already and what you're aiming for.

Yes it really, really depends OP on what your lips look like as is and what is your idea of 'too much'. Semi permanent makeup done right can be just as good but it's mostly about finding a good consultant and seeing their work on others.

If you know people who've had it and you like the look they have could you ask them where they had it done? I'd get a few consultations before anything is done anyway and prepare/plan for the week afterwards - they will likely look more than you want in that time due to swelling and some people get bruising which is obvious and hard to cover when it's on the lip. That needs to be something you're ok with and can feel you can go to work etc with- unless you're taking time off. If not weigh up whether it is worth that.

Yes I had them done twice a few years ago. Just had 0.5ml and I loved it. I think 1ml the first time is way too much. Always best to start off smaller with lip fillers and see how your lips react and if you actually like it. Mine kept my lips full for a minimum of 6 months and after a year I had them done again.

Thanks for the comments. My lips aren't that small currently I just want it for a bit of shape and volume so I think 0.5ml would be good to start with.

@JustHereWithPopcorn what was the bruising like for you after having them done if you don't mind me asking? I know everybody is different but I'm just curious to know.

My bruising wasn't too bad at all just a small bruise or red pimple type mark where the needle went in. I remember booking mine in a few days before work/seeing anyone so the initial swelling and bruising was gone before anyone saw me so it wasn't obvious I just had fillers done.

A good practitioner won't use up the whole 1ml on your first go although you would still need to pay for it. You'd probably get a small amount then go back a few weeks later to see if you wanted a top up.
I like mine although I did have a massive disaster one time which I got dissolved.

@JustHereWithPopcorn that's not too bad then. I've booked it for a Friday where I won't be back at work until the Tuesday so will have the whole weekend and the Monday where I won't have to face anybody

@Sagradafamiliar the place I'm going to offers a syringe of 0.5 mil or 1ml so I'm going to go for the 0.5 to start with. They're a really reputable company with amazing reviews, I also know a lot of people who have gone to this clinic and she always says it's best to build it up. Oh no what happened if you don't mind me asking?

Sorry I've just seen this! Yes I usually pay for a 1ml but the full amount doesn't get used up. You might as well go for half as it's the first time though and see how you go.
I don't know technically what went wrong although I do know there isn't a lot of room for error and have seen it happen a lot in people around me: little bumps formed on the inside of my mouth. But much worse, late that night, two big lumps took shape on my top lip kind of directly under my Cupid's bow, squishing together and making a crease down the middle of my lip. It got more swollen and kind of joined together. By the end of it, it looked like I'd had a lego brick implanted inside it. But I had hyaluronidase injected to dissolve it all. The nurse who had done it is one of the most reputable around and I hadn't had any problems before but I still changed to someone else just in case she'd actually made a mistake and it wasn't 'just one of those things' like she said it was.

I get a full syringe now as ai am old as dust and I need it for both volume outline and shaping

I had 1ml for the first time about 2 months ago. I love them and they look natural but have gone down loads..I'm.going to have them topped up before xmas.
I'm glad I didnt have 0.5 but I'm 48 and had lost a lot of volume.

@Sagradafamiliar that sounds so scary, especially as it was a reputable person it just shows that anything can go wrong! Luckily it's not permanent though and can be dissolved that puts my mind at ease about it all

@Spaceprincess that was my worry, incase 0.5 doesn't make any difference at all! I'm 22 and my lips aren't that small but I just want it for a little bit of shape and volume, I'm hoping that 0.5 will be enough

I loved mine once the initial swelling had gone (about a week later). They look better than before now but not as good as they did then iyswim. I think it depends on what you want your end result to be.
I'm having another 1ml end of nov but may not have it all put in.

Just an update, I got my filler done on Friday and I absolutely love it! I got 1ml in the end as she first did 0.5ml but because my natural lips weren't that small to begin with it didn't look much different and I just knew that I'd be disappointed when the swelling went down. Thanks for all the advice

Can I ask how much you paid op?

I have 1ml every 2-3months. Lady who does mine is actually a GP as day job and has always done a full 1ml at a time. When spread between the top and bottom lip and once bruising goes down I'm sure you'd regret just getting the 0.5ml as it does break down.
I actually pay for 2ml but we spread over 2 appointments. I do get some bruising for a few days so usually try and do my appt on a Friday so I'm not all blotchy for work!

OP I get half syringe every time I go and it does make a big difference but still looks natural

@trendingsomewhere I paid £200 for 1ml, but I do live in a small village in Wales so I'm not sure if the prices differ from place to place

@thunderandsunshine01 thanks for your comment! I am so glad that I went for the 1ml, I was worried 1ml would be too much but I absolutely love them they look natural just a bit more plump than before, I think I would have been gutted if I'd just got the 0.5ml

@BilboBercow the nurse who did mine for me started off with 1ml on her first time but now gets top ups of 0.5ml every few months and her lips looked lovely! Maybe now that I have had 1ml to start with I could just get top ups of 0.5ml too

I had very thin lips but a good shape. It’s important to start small and work your way up. There’s so many out there make sure you go to a reputable trained nurse or doctor, not just a salon.
