Comfortable bag/backpack for sightseeing in NYC with hidden pocket

I'm searching for a bag to take to NYC on holiday. DH will have a backpack for water etc. I'd like a bag I can carry water, coat etc in for most of the day. Would prefer not to have a shoulder bag. And would like a hidden pocket for phone, purse etc.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

I just use a zipped leather bag with zipped pockets that has a cross body strap.

You need a Kipling bag. They’re not the most glamorous, but they’re incredibly lightweight and well made. Perfect for sightseeing and walking all day. Here’s an example, but there are loads to choose from.
