Outfit help! (Friends wedding)

Any help from you fashionistas would be so gratefully received.

I’ve been really generously invited to a wedding, there will be a much younger crowd than me and I really want to look good. I’m 36 just post baby two - and have a tummy. I’m short 5’3 size 14/16 bigger bust, hourglass ish, nice legs and forearms.

I don’t want to look like I’m trying too hard, but I want to look good and not mumsey or too formal (which I often do a bit) and I’ve not gone out for a while so feel a bit out of touch.

Seen anything nice recently that could fit the bill?

What's your budget op?

userabcname · 12/10/2019 21:54

Similar clothes size and height here OP - I bought a lovely dress for a wedding at Roman with a matching lacy jacket to cover my arms. They had lots of great dresses in there - flattering and reasonable prices imo.

Is it a winter wedding? I'm a similar shape I think and I'm partial to t-shirt dresses, which I hope think always look cool and understated.

Also, what colours suit you and what is budget please?

MariahDontCarey · 12/10/2019 22:06

This sort of thing? (That isn't me in the photo btw)!

Wow thanks so much to everyone who has chipped in so far.

Colouring - brown hair with slight golden ends. Pale skin.

Budget - would go up to £150 if it’s something I could wear again / dress up down.

T-shirt dress perfect style wise, but with a bigger bust they can hang off me in a very unflattering way, they make my whole body look as big as my busy and I loose a waist.

Oh, and an autumn wedding at the end of October.

T-shirt dresses are a big no if you've a big bust, in size 12 with 34es and I look 4 sizes bigger in that style. At 34 you are not an oldie and I'm sure you'd look gorgeous in a fitted dress

Thanks red :)

I would have a look at wrap dresses. They flatter a big bust and small waist. Are very wearable after and can be dressed up with heels and jewelry. Boden usually have some not sure of prices
Also I have just bought my first pair of spanx bc however much weight I lose tummy never fully goes. They have changed the way I dress! I feel and look so much better with them on. Worth the extra money. I'm re-wearing stuff I havent gone near for ages bc my tummy is now flatter.
Good luck op

Bamboo15 · 12/10/2019 23:07

Thanks Happy - Spanx are a great recommendation and wrap dresses, I’ve been struggling to find ones that look wedding worthy.

Ah fair enough re boobs. I am larger of nork but I still love, (and suit thanking you and harrumph Wink), some t-shirt dresses, so don't totally write them off forever Smile. A bit of height and aower neckline helps. They aren't all totally shapeless and some skim quite nicely.

I really like this^^, but maybe a bit long?

Sooverthemill · 13/10/2019 08:33

Wrap dress or a jumpsuit? this looks lovely

Bamboo15 · 13/10/2019 11:21

Some really great suggestions here - thanks guys.

Mariah - Yes, gorgeous but maybe a bit long. The other stuff on the site is lovely though and so worth a look.

Soover - that is a fantastic jumpsuit. I think I would need a more tapered leg for it not to look a bit flappy on me. Design is lovely.

@Bamboo15. Well it's reduced and you get free returns. Why don't you order it and see? It soften surprising what does look good. And it's stunning, perfect for a wedding i'd think

justthefourofus1 · 13/10/2019 16:05

I wore this to a wedding very recently from Silkfred.

I wore it with a navy fascinator and then wore red shoes and had a red clutch to brighten it up a bit.

I didn't need a coat as we were indoors all day. I had lot of compliments and felt comfortable all day and night.

Justthe four-that’s a beautiful dress, I’ll check it out.

Soover- I think I will order that jumpsuit and give it a go it’s so wearable and you’re right I can send it back if it doesn’t work. A great find thanks you.
