Can anyone recommend a winter coat? I am looking for a classic, elegant, timeless design of good quality. About knee length or a bit shorter, single breasted, no belt, black or dark coloured. I don't mind paying extra for a good design. Thank you!

The Jaeger boyfriend coat is perfect. Although I’ve seen some wonderful coats in Massimo Dutti today. Just not what you have asked for.

Thank you for that! Jaeger boyfriend coat is Index beautiful and exactly what I'm looking for, it is a bit over my budget though.

Brandalley have a few jaegar coats at reasonable ( for jaegar ) prices. Depends on your size of course
Otherwise look at this for inspiration. I find her take on the new trends helpful.

in navy £125

Oh that is a beautiful coat but oos in my size otherwise I would have bought one

John Lewis have several makes of coat similar to the Jaeger styled one. Whistles, Phase 8 and JL own brand are all cheaper. There are possibly more - just didn’t look at every possibility!

Have a look int TKMaxx there's lots of winter coats in there at the moment. I've just bought a long, wool, tweed, DKNY coat for just over £100

I just bought a beautiful navy wool coat from the Autograph range at M&S. It was £149 (though you may be able to get one of the 20% off codes that are doing the rounds) but as several blogs have said, it looks more expensive. It has 8% cashmere so feels really soft and has lovely timeless detailing.

I just got a black funnel neck coat from next. Classic shake and cut with a funky lining. Only £62

Shape! Blame autocorrect Smile

Thank you for all your suggestions. Brandalley looks interesting, I've never heard of it. Do you need to be a member in order to browse their offers?

I have a previous year's version of the Autograph coat mentioned above (this one), and it's about to go into its 5th winter still going strong. I also love & Other Stories for coats, although it looks like their range this year might be on the long side for you.

Sooverthemill · 12/10/2019 11:17

@Monoceros yes you have to register but I just did that via Facebook. I buy stuff there occasionally. It's all usually end of season/last season and you need to watch delivery date ( you can tick 'available immediately). I've had hush stuff ( jeans) and lots of bedding!

I have a navy, wool coat from Hobbs. I think it was about £200 from JL this time last year.

It's single breasted and a little above knee length on me (5'8").
