Trainer Help (toe pic alert)

I have bought some absolutely beautiful Hudson trainers that I wore for the first time yesterday. They fit well but during the evening my left big toe started to rub and I became aware that where the trainers bend during walking is different for each foot. The right is perfect but the left bends in a really unnatural place and digs in to my toe.

I have attached photos if you can tell what I mean. And my big toe is badly bruised Sad. Is it a case of more wearing in? Is the left shoe faulty? How can I make it bend like the right? Is it a doomed shoe?

I have tried lacing in different ways which hasn't helped where the left shoe bends.

Thanks. And sorry for my manky foot pic.

That’s weird. It’s like the shoes bend at a slanted angle. Mine bend in a straight line horizontally across my feet. Dunno what’s going on with your trainers. Do all your shoes bend at a sideways angle, like have you got long toes or something that causes all your shoes to be like that? None of mine are. I don’t think it’s just me? We’re they creased when you took them out of the box?

My other shoes are almost horizontal, a slight angle. I want the left trainer to bend like the right, and I'm not sure if it will ever do it.

Photo of some other shoes I have and where they bend...

The trainers were not creased when I took them out of the box.

I'd send/take them back for a refund. After 1 days wear they look so shit and you're right, they bend in such a bizarre place. It's not like they've rubbed a bit and left blisters, they've badly bruised your toe!

Soontobe60 · 09/10/2019 22:07

They look like they are too wide for you r foot. Also, they look really well worn for a shoe only worn once!

fuzzymoon · 09/10/2019 22:10

They look poor quality to be left so battered after one wear. Let alone the place they have bent is odd.

DrFoxtrot · 09/10/2019 22:17

I am bending my feet in the photos to demonstrate where the crease is, they don't look badly worn in real life. But I imagine they might do quickly with repeated wear! Blush

I hope that a return will be accepted if I explain how the left shoe appears to bend differently. They don't feel too wide, the fit seems ok when my feet are flat and not walking.

Are they leather? Leather trainers can sometimes be really difficult to break in (particularly leather converse). I know with DH’s leather trainers we had to remove one of the metal eyelets to stop it pressing on his foot and causing bruising - they have been fine ever since.

It could just be you have received a pair of shoes that have one foot cut ‘wrong’ or put together slightly off and it’s causing problems. Fabric and leather have a grain and stiffer fabrics will bend a certain way depending on the way the grain lies. (Think of the way a regular dress drapes compared to a skater style - it’s all about the way the fabric has been cut in relation the the grain).
If the fabric used for your shoe has been cut on an angle rather than straight across it could be causing the shoe to bend wrong. I would be tempted to return and exchange them if they are faulty.

Thank you, that's helpful. And thanks everyone for your comments. I'm going to call tomorrow to start the return process and see what they say. I would love to say I could give it time to wear in but I don't want to risk it in case it doesn't improve!
