Or would you buy items like umbrellas, bags, towels, hats, sunglasses, gloves, scarves, pants, vests, socks, pjs, dressing gown, swimwear, raincoats, puddlesuits, wellies, slippers etc with tv characters on?

littlepeaegg · 08/10/2019 18:33

I dislike it for my child

littlepeaegg · 08/10/2019 18:34

So yes haha i don't like it either

kenandbarbie · 08/10/2019 18:34

I don't mind underpants.

kenandbarbie · 08/10/2019 18:34

Also some pyjamas!

MustardScreams · 08/10/2019 18:36

I hate it but family members are insistent on buying dd clothes with characters on so she wears them when we see them.

There’s so many lovely baby/kids clothes out there without tv shite all over them.

VolcanionSteamArtillery · 08/10/2019 18:37

For you your own choice, i get it.

Most of the kids i know that grew up with that rule hated it though

kenandbarbie · 08/10/2019 18:38

Oh I see you meant in general! I only don't mind tv characters on kids underpants and sometimes pyjamas. Although they do have marvel wallpaper and cars and Star Wars bedding, that looks quite cool though. I think I'm a bit snobbish about which characters they are. Star Wars, marvel, Harry Potter I like but Mickey Mouse no way!!!!

I wouldn't dream of wearing any myself!

NerrSnerr · 08/10/2019 18:38

My children wear character clothes because it gives them pleasure (although my 5 year old doesn't have much now she's getting older). My two year old will point to his top and say 'blue train' to anyone who'll listen when he wears a Thomas top.

I'll let them point out tops, pyjamas etc in the shop. As long as they're appropriate for weather I'll let them choose.

Drogosnextwife · 08/10/2019 18:39

For me, nope never wear anything with a character. For kids I don't mind the odd tshirt, jumper, jammies and underwear. No to trousers, jackets, shoes. I try and avoid them as much as possible but if it makes my kids happy to wear them then I let them. If they couldn't care less, I wouldnt buy them.

littlevoicer · 08/10/2019 18:40

Anything with a character on it is only permitted to be worn / used INSIDE our house Grin

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 08/10/2019 18:40

No no no. Just don't get it. I don't wear band tshirts etc either. My dh loves that shit though. He is currently sporting pac man pjsHmm

Bohemond · 08/10/2019 18:40

We just don’t shop in Asda. Problem solved. Grin

LuxuryWoman2018 · 08/10/2019 18:41

My daughter loved bags and pyjamas with her favourite characters on so yes I’d buy them for her, long time ago now but I seem to remember Fifi and the flowertots wellies and the odd Peppa Pig thing plus a ton of Hello Kitty.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 08/10/2019 18:42

Ds has spiderman pjs but that's it I hate slogan stuff too

sunshineandshowers21 · 08/10/2019 18:43

anything used inside the house - pyjamas, bedding, ‘doss’ clothes - i don’t mind them having characters on, but i wouldn’t take my kids out in character clothing.

NerrSnerr · 08/10/2019 18:43

If your child really liked PJ masks or Charlie and Lola and wanted a jumper with them on would you buy it as it's something they'd like and get pleasure from? If not, why not? Is it because you don't want your 3 year old to look common?

Ohyesiam · 08/10/2019 18:45

I have always disliked branded and character clothing, then Harry Potter found a way into my heart and I melted a little.

Timeless19 · 08/10/2019 18:46

Generally I hate characters on clothing, but as a baby she wore peter rabbit branded clothes from Jojo which I did like!

smellybelly1 · 08/10/2019 18:46

I dislike it but they have pyjamas & bed linen, slippers, bags that are paw patrol, pj masks or peppa pig

smellybelly1 · 08/10/2019 18:47

oh but I like Mickey Mouse stuff from h&m & Zara and they wear that out.

marshmallowkittycat · 08/10/2019 18:48

Nope. I don't particularly like it and don't buy it for my 2 year old. My 5 year old, however is very vocal about what he likes - at the moment it's superheroes or anything Lego. And if it means he'll put clothes on without a fuss, I don't mind.

RedSheep73 · 08/10/2019 18:53

I've never really seen the problem. As long as they like the character, where's the harm?

neonglow · 08/10/2019 18:54

I’ve never seen a problem with it? DS has Hey duggee wellies and top from NEXT, Bing PJs and onesie and a few other bits.

I’d say 99% of his nursery friends have character backpacks and umbrellas. Tbh most kids umbrellas are the character kind? Well maybe unless you pay extra for a cath kidston one or whatever

MmeBufo · 08/10/2019 18:54

They were 'allowed' stuff with characters on if it was a present or handed down or some such, they tended not to though. Which surprised me TBH. Same with stuff with in your face branding now they're older.

I found they were perfectly capable of understanding the concept of adverts from a very young age, once they did they weren't that keen on being advertised on and got that there was no way I would be paying to have them advertised on. It was never an issue though TBH.

What I did, and still do, strictly refuse to allow them to wear/have is camouflage anything. They aren't child soldiers. I really can't be having with that in a world where the are actual child soldiers, I really, really can't.

bloodywhitecat · 08/10/2019 18:56

I don't like it, i don't wear any clothing with a slogan but I am not the person wearing it so if our little girl decides she'd like a Peppa Pig coat then so be it, what harm does it do?
