Jewellery dilemma

Very first world problem I know but I posted recently about losing a diamond bracelet on holiday which I was very upset about partly because I’ve also got lots of other stuff going on and am quite emotionally fragile
I claimed on my insurance who initially offered me £2,500 as a cash settlement which I declined because the pieces they based their valuation on were nothing like the one I’ve lost and nowhere near as nice
I asked them to increase it to £2,800 as a local jeweller had managed to find me one the same at that price (wholesale)
They have now withdrawn their offer but given me £5000 voucher to spend at a jeweller of their choice
Looking at their online store everything seems overpriced and not to my taste - I usually buy antique and am used to getting better value
So what would you buy?
I am considering a simple tennis style bracelet, would hopefully get a decent size solitaire diamond ring, simple diamond studs or solitaire pendant
Alternatively I could get a watch - I have an old gold ladies omega but it’s older than me and quite delicate so I only wear for special occasions
I could get an everyday watch and if so would you go omega, tag or Rolex - this jeweller does also second hand watches so could possibly get something which would retail around 7.5k if new
I will probably never have this opportunity again and don’t want to regret it

Didn't you already replace the bracelet and post a pic?

So you'd not want another?

LaPampa · 08/10/2019 13:57

Im confused. I thought you replaced it earlier? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/3710899-Lost-bracelet-part-2

If I had £5k suddenly available only for jewellery i would probably buy a watch.

I bought another bracelet because I thought cheque was on its way - which was totally stupid I should have waited until I’d actually got it! When I spoke to loss adjuster on Friday was told worse that could happen was that they wouldn’t increase it - they didn’t say they could withdraw it
I’m kicking myself now

Well I don’t know the ins and outs of claims so can’t help there.

Can you take the other bracelet back? Sell it? Spend the £5k voucher and then sell the item so you get some cash to spend somewhere you do like?

When does it expire? Presumably the voucher place will at least sell you a bracelet like the one you lost otherwise why would they give you a voucher for that place?

JaceLancs · 08/10/2019 17:26

I might sell the other one - I’m not sure how it works the last time I made a jewellery claim was 34 years ago after a burglary and they just sent me a cheque
I think the voucher hasn’t got an end date - they are going to order some similar bracelets to look at but apparently I can equally choose something entirely different

Who is the jeweller your voucher is for?

JaceLancs · 08/10/2019 20:31

Goldsmiths

God, you really don't get a lot for your money there!

I'd look at the new Omega watches personally. I've always liked their Constellation series.

I’ve posted a few times on here about this - for anyone interested it’s finally resolved
I had to make a formal complaint to insurance company in the end - they went back to original cash offer plus compensation for inconvenience - so have been able to put some money back in bank for that which I stupidly spent in anticipation

I have been searching for something special and antique with the rest of the insurance and today collected this beautiful opal and diamond ring

Thank you!
Better picture - I’m not going to wear it until Xmas Day though
