A burgundy cord pinafore dress?

I would do any kind of top underneath
Black tshirt
White T-shirt
Black and white striped
Anything really that you like
Denim jacket (black?)
Tights and boots
Or tights and converse

Lots of things will go with it. What about a stripey long sleeved top or a oatmeal coloured jumper...?

I'm kind of struggling with the top. Tights and boots I have in abundance but it's the colour combos that are stressing me out. I own nothing black.

There are loads of colours that could be good.
Obvious ones like grey or navy.

Surprising ones like pale pink or mustard. Or olive.

I think black would be a shame.

What have you got? Tan, grey, blue - navy or cobalt or baby, white/cream? Pale pink? Bottle green?

I've a bit of navy and grey. Do I need to match tights to top? I love the dress just need to start wearing it!!

Tights don't have to match - all the colours need to tone with each other but navy, grey and burgundy would be absolutely fine. Equally if you had a top in one of those colours you might venture mustard tights or vice versa. Too matchy-matchy or too many clashing brighys and there's a risk of looking like a kids TV presenter

I wore a burgundy cord pinafore today with a turtle neck - thin, black and long sleeved. 100 denier black tights and chunky, patent, black boots.

I felt really nice - I think black goes well with burgundy

Only 20% of my wardrobe is black but I think you need some pieces?
