Dying hair after full head foils

I had a full head of foils back in June and the colour has gone very brassy and has a gingery tone to it.

I can't afford to have it done again at the hairdressers but need to get rid of this awful colour that it is now.

Would a dark box dye work or is this a bad idea?

Could you get a toner instead to take out the brassiness? And then use a purple shampoo and conditioner on it.

Try some sliver shampoo before you box dye. If You just want to get rid of the brassiness you can achieve this with toners and purple toned products.

Blue shampoo is also good for gingery tones. I bought some toning blue shampoo that I mix with conditioner and slap on my gingery bits before I jump into the shower. Then I wash it out with purple shampoo. You have to mix the blue shampoo to a very light shade, but it makes very orange bits browner and more brassy yellow bits blonder.

Which toner do I need to get? I tried purple shampoo when I first had it done but it didn't do a lot to it

Schwarzkopf professional do a good range of toners, it depends on what colour your hair is to which one you’d buy. Someone will be along with more knowledge soon I’m sure!

@MustardScreams Thanks! My hairs brown, I had it bleached to a lighter brown at first then a full head of foils, so it's more gingery/orange highlights than blonde

If you want to go dark anyway make sure you get a warm brown rather than cool. I dyed over my full head of blonde highlights back in January, I used nice n easy warm dark brown, I do the roots (I’m grey) every 4 weeks and put the rest of the dye on the lengths for the last 10 minutes. It’s stayed dark without fading and is in much better condition and I’m considerably better off, I used to pay £150 every 6 weeks for foils.

@notanotherone28 the Schwarzkopf won’t affect the brown, but will reduce the brassiness of the lighter bits. If you choose a darker colour one it will work.

Agree with pp about warmer browns over light hair also.
