Leather jacket for older teen dd

Anyone got a late teens / early 20s dd who wears a leather jacket (or 20s yourself!)? I was pondering Christmas presents for dd & it struck me that it might be a useful as well as nice thing to own. If she has clothes she likes she wears them forever, so I wouldn't mind spending a bit (also, we're near enough the same size.. Grin )

my boyfriend bought me a gorgeous all saints leather jacket for my birthday one year. it was a bit pricy - think it was around £350 - but i still wear it four years later and it just gets better with age.

Yes, I gave an All Saints leather jacket and I love it

BubblesBuddy · 04/10/2019 00:02

Everyone on MN buys All Saints leather jackets. There really are cheaper ones just as good if not better!

Zara, for a start. Massimo Dutti (Zara’s more sophisticated sister), Mango and Reiss have options and of course Asos.

My d has a lovely khaki leather biker jacket (sorry - allsaints lol) that I picked up in immaculate condition on eBay for £51. She wears it for all sorts of things - from going to Ikea to dinner at the Shard

HostessTrolley · 04/10/2019 00:09

Sorry - she’s 19

YahBasic · 04/10/2019 07:12

All Saints or Superdry for a slightly more affordable option.

daisypond · 04/10/2019 07:16

I’d double-check first whether it’s something she’d want. I have early 20 and late teen daughters and two of them would never wear a leather jacket.

Sadik · 04/10/2019 08:27

I was probably thinking a bit lower price range than All Saints, so useful suggestions Bubbles.

Daisypond I have asked her, and she thinks potentially yes. I guess I was really wondering about what brands/styles other young women her age wear to find some examples for her to look at.

She's pretty stylish (cropped gelled hair / Cyberdog tees / DMs type look) but loathes shopping, even online, so a major part of the present would be putting in the time to find some suitable things for her to look at / choose from. (MN being my friend in such quests!)

My DDs, both mid 20s, have had leather biker jackets for years. DD2 who is 24 has one with studs all over. She has had that for years - since her Jeffrey Campbell sudded boot days. Plus a camel coloured one. Style is key. She likes them a bit "out there". She was given a "painted" one by an artist in New York when she interned there. No-one else has that one. So yes, they are perfectly wearable for teens and, if you choose well, they never go out of fashion. They just accesorise them differently as they get older!

Swiftier · 04/10/2019 13:03

I’d go for a high quality ethical jacket like this one, with the details it’s more fun/younger.

But they have plain black ones too.

Watching with interest, my 18 year old dd would like one. Not sure how much to spend, it will be an Xmas present.

Gixerade · 04/10/2019 14:21

Biker's Paradise leather jackets based in Coventry are imo the best quality and style for a great price. I have two of their jackets and absolutely love them.

walkintheparc · 04/10/2019 14:25

Zara!

Sadik · 05/10/2019 12:55

Loads to look at here! Thanks so much all :)

twosoups it is hard to know isn't it - I'm assuming this is something dd will wear for a long time, so happy to spend a reasonable amount.

Topshop often do nice leather jackets.

Trewser · 05/10/2019 13:04

Fashion conscious dd wouldnt wear a biker leather jacket but she bought herslef a blazer style leather jacket from depop and loves it

walkintheparc · 05/10/2019 17:25

Leather bikers are always in style, maybe not always 'in trend', but a classic. I think it's a great gift OP. I would just make sure you buy it close enough to the birthday to be within returns deadlines just incase it's not her style.
