Tights and shoes combo - is it just me?

Most of my life I've been a faithful wearer of black tights in the cooler months. All very boring.

In the last few years I've discovered coloured tights (mainly through Snag), and it's been a huge game changer for my wardrobe. Great.

The problem is, I can't figure out my footwear. I love my grey/navy/green tights, but they all seem to look really weird with black shoes (most of my shoes and boots are black). Or if I try and match say, navy tights and navy suede boots, it still looks weird.

I've browsed photos of what footwear models/people wear with coloured tights, but it all looks mismatched to me.

I guess my question is, do other people think it's weird too? Or is it just me and I need to get over the fact that coloured tights can go with different colour shoes and boots? I always feel like everyone would stare at me if I wore green tights with black boots....

What about tan brogues or dark brown boots?

I wear navy tights and navy boots a lot, it's the same as wearing black tights/boots really. It does take some getting used to when you're in the habit of matching your tights and shoes, maybe try eg. brown shoes/green tights as a less harsh contrast?

I have the same problem. I cant make anything other than black tights and shoes work.

You're over thinking it. You spend time worrying that it looks mismatched, but everyone else will probably not give your tights/shoes/boots combos a second glance. Embrace the colour!

I have brown leather Chelsea boots that go well with coloured tights.

I do know what you mean. I think most things go with black or brown e.g. Grey or burgundy with black and green or navy with brown. Good luck!

I wore navy snag tights with tan ankle boots (Chelsea boot type) at the weekend. It looked nice (I think).

Sounds like brown or tan footwear would be a better look and less harsh than a black+colour combo (similar to the other thread running at the moment about wearing black with colour, I guess).

Think I need to get myself a pair of brown/tan boots and also stop overthinking this

I wear black knee boots with coloured tights, I like the flash of colour. Otherwise I feel bright tights make my legs look chubby (largely because they are). Though now I have solved my chronic puffy ankle problem I might try again. (Magnesium supplements in case anyone wonders).

Match your shoes / boots to your skirt / dress / coat. Let your coloured tights stand out. Or match them to your accessories

I wear the pumpkin spice snag tights with brown ankle boots. I also wear navy or mustard tights with tan shoes/boots. I think bright pink, purple or burgundy tights look nice with black footwear as well.

Those sound like lovely colour combos with the brown boots, @LaserShark. Ok the hunt for some brown boots I like now....

I wear snag too. I personally wear brown boots, I have a brown bag too so they balance each other. The tights I wear the same colour as the dress, or the jacket, or the top or skirt. If the tights was the only colour I was wearing I'd team it with a scarf, bracelet, or necklace or even lipstick. You don't have to be too matchy matchy, but their does need to be a balance. I had a tutor who wore completely black except for her coloured tights. It's takes time to get used to playing with colour when you aren't used to it. 😍 Be brave and before you know it you will have some other colours. ❤️
