WWW's six week 10 yy boot camp WEEK TWO of the Aug/Sept thread

WideWebWitch · 13/08/2007 07:51

Hello! This is week two of the SEVENTH WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007

( how did that happen?)

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a resuklt. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, especially in this heat
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Anyone who feels like it, post how you've been feeling since doing this and why you want to keep doing it. Add what you want to achieve at the end of it too if you want to.

Here's mine:
I want to be a size I'm happier with by ds's tenth birthday, which is 2 months away. I want to not want to cry when I see the photos.

TM I am sorry to hear about your friend, and the sad way you found out.

www - I shop like batters - once a month or so Tesco online for all the basics and booze (and go to the special offers first to buy up loads of anything discounted that you could use - that's how I buy all my toiletries, they very often have 2:1 deals). Then Waitrose weekly, although meat usually comes from the butcher. And you can get make up and soem toiletries really cheaply on websites like fragrance direct, they often have slighty damaged packaging and are sold at huge discounts.

OK, back on the wagon after the whole client BBQ / birthday thing, complete with synthetic-urea-smelling feet!

Very impressed with all the exercise-type activity that is going on. Over the past seven years I have turned from a five days a week gym bunny into a "no exercise at all" person, and finding a window of opportunity to do some sort of aerobic exercise is firmly on the "things to do" list... must stop making excuses...

www - househunting - how exciting!

right - salon sized shampoo and conditioner..........

How did you get your Makro card sobernow? That does sound good! And thank heavens SIL has now decamped, and congratulations for the nurse and her incredible shrinking donor. (PS am STILL not an aunt! nearly 42 weeks now )
WWW, I'd have had you down for a 14 too, truly - and to add to prufrock's suggestion, both Look Fantastic and HQ Hair often have good promos/bulk buys on eg Aveda, Kerastase.
Batters, I forgot to say how fab that you are in Boden range, that is brilliant Re gyms, I don't feel ready yet either (well not at all really but they are good for burning fat), but have heard of a chain of all women's gyms called Curves, where the staff are specifically interested in helping long-time non-gym users/larger women lose weight and get fit. Is there one near you?
Or you could do what I did and buy an exercise bike. Erm, you do have to use it though
I have a box of Quinoa in the cupboard at home Duchess, I had no idea it was such a low-carb food, I'll see if I can palm it off on my family as "beige couscous". Thanks for the tip and congratulations on the hoisted derriere. I still need to locate my waist before I can whittle away at it, but I've heard hula hooping or bellydancing are good for this
I am posting at top speed as work is chaos - painters, electricians and data-cablers, all involved in an arse-scratching and cussing contest feet from my desk. So have decamped to the staff room where my Mn habit might be rumbled at any moment.

tortoiseSHELL · 14/08/2007 13:00

lol sobernow at telling the nurse about the thread! But well done, you've obviously made a huge difference!

Thinking about sizes, I'm at my happiest when I'm a 'real' 12, but probably naturally more of a 14 (not atm though). The smallest I've ever been was as a student when I was a 10, but don't think that is sustainable for me really. Www - you can't be much more than a 14!

winnie · 14/08/2007 17:07

WWW, how did the house hunting go?

Marina, there is a Curves near me and the door is often open and it s full of acertain type of middleaged woman I simply don't aspire to be The word crimplene comes to mind It's also painted mauve and despite loving purple as a colour the mauve and crimplene combo puts me off (tha's my excuse anyway ) Or could it be htat it simply looks too much like hard work?

Batters, I am dim, what is a spin class?

Sobernow, how often in rl do I refer to what one or other of us has said here (or on MN) and end up brushing over who actually said what, where. I am sure I must be gaining a reputation for having imaginary friends who are all witty & stylish, clever and accomplished & generally gorgeous & worth knowing (with hens)

Continual of Prufrock

Yesterday was a rather bad day. Big row with dd. Feel despairing. XH loves me and wants me back (again) and it is NOT FAIR (stamping foot emoticon) I am finally sorting myself out!

Today began at 4 am as I couldn't sleep but so far it has been ok.

winnie · 14/08/2007 17:09

Apologies for 'worse than usual' typos. I'll blame the 4 am start

prufrock · 14/08/2007 19:13

well winnie you just tell that horrid xh of yours that - "I want doesn't get". You are so much better off without him screwing you up emotionally and continually changing his mind. You are sorting yourslef out, and he doesn't like it.

I honestly think that in a gym like curves you will get more people staring critically at your body than in a normal gym. 20 something bodybuilders don't even register the saggy bellied niddle aged amongst us, and most gyms will have cubicled changing areas if you can't stand to ge naked amongst teens. Speaking as someone who has finally cracked the exercise thing (though I have a long way to go before it has the necessary effects) the most important thing is to make it a habit that fits in well to your daily routine. And to do that you really need to get a personal trainer, for at least 10 sessions, so that you have to go those 10 times. Then you start to see results and it becomes a normal, enjoyable part of your life rather than another chore. I honestly felt awful after my 3 weeks with only one gym session and was really glad to be able to get back to working out. (I never thought I would say such a thing)

rosmerta · 14/08/2007 19:34

Winnie, I don't know anything about your situation but hope it gets better soon.

I've decided I cannot do gyms, I hate them too much so am going to focus on swimming and yoga!

WideWebWitch · 14/08/2007 21:10

Gosh, you're too kind Batters, Marina and TS, I most definitely am not a size 14, but it was dark last time I saw you two Marina and Batters. Thank you all though, your kind words have really cheered me up

Winnie my lovely, I'm sorry X is being an arse again - he simply cannot do this 'now I want you, er, now I don't' thing, it's not fair. Sorry things with dd are tough again. And I hope you get a better nights sleep tonight.

Sobernow, lol at the nurse. I do that, not with just medical people, I do it with any adult who'll talk to me. I've become one of those middle aged women - the poor estate agent couldn't wait to get away this evening! Glad your SIL's gone, hope the next lot of guests are fun.

Marina thanks for money saving tips. I used the 29p conditioner tonight and it's still wet so we'll see how my hair looks tomorrow once I've straightened it. sorry to hear work is chaotic, have you had The Talk yet? Good luck if not.

DofN, no, never tried quinoa, it it like cous cous? Hmm. Or is it like polenta? I hate polenta. Running and rowing MOST impressive, well done.

Prufrock, thanks for tips and so glad to see you posting from paradise well done on yoga and happiness front...

rosemerta, I reckon swimming and yoga is good, I can't face gyms either.

Legalalien, welcome back to the bootcamp!

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 14/08/2007 21:24

Not bad

2 pieces toast and marmite
apple
small wholemeal sandwich, no butter, proscuitto and mustard
200 cal packet of crisps
another apple
and another
2 slices proscuitto
5 fishfingers and peas
loads of sweets at a meeting, dammit, just remembered them
no walking although I would have LOVED to walk in the drizzle (seriously, I do like it for anyone who doesn't know this!) but no time as I rushed home to see a house. It wasn't big enough but was v lovely, we will get something lovely I think. It had 3 beds, and the master was tucked away at the top of the house and was blissfully peaceful (which made me realise how much the traffic noise annoys me where we are now) but downstairs was too small and a teeny garden so really, no good. But it was good to see somewhere.

No wine so far tonight but I am consdiering one glass, as I had last night

rosmerta · 14/08/2007 22:05

lol www, though it did take me a minute to get it

Btw, where are you house hunting if you don't mind me asking?

feetheart · 14/08/2007 22:16

I can't keep up with everyone at the moment, holidays are definitely eating into my MN time!

WWW - good luck with the house-hunting and reeling in the spending. I'm with whoever suggested meal-planning. It sounds a bit anal but it means we go shopping with a list, and quite often stick to it!! It also means that I don't have an "Oh my God what am I going to feed the children" panic at 4.30pm every afternoon which is worth it in itself

Marina - LOL at "beige couscous"
I can vouch for the hula hoop method! Got one a couple of months ago and although I don't use it as often as I should it has made a difference. I have just about relocated my waist and the way my whole torso aches the next day must mean its doing me good (fingers-crossed emoticon) Trick is to get the biggest, heaviest hoop possible as it is then much easier to get it going. Poxy little kiddies hoops are impossible.

Struggling with Bootcamp during the holidays - water and excercise especially (I logged under 1500 steps on Sunday ) but happiness is high as we have had some really lovely days.

Off to re-join waiting thread.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 14/08/2007 22:35

Quinoa is very like couscous but has a more rustic texture. It needs to be very well rinsed before cooking and needs flavouring - cook in stock/add chilli flakes, roasted tomatoes/courgette etc. It is gorgeous too!

Quinoa per cooked 80g = 15.4g carb of which sugars 0.5g compared to couscous per cooked 50g = 31.3g carb of which sugars 1.8g

I have eaten huge bag of Tyrells crisps, a honey, raisin & apricot bar, a large piece of chocolate and a cup of real hot chocolate - since dinner . Well, I did get soaked to the skin doing the ponies this evening so I probably needed a boost...

winnie · 15/08/2007 08:24

WWW, lol at meeting. How was the 29p conditioner?

Agree with Prufrock about making exercise a habit being the key.

And yes, you are both right about xh I just have to remain strong and maybe... go on another date

feetheart, good to see you.

TDoNB, ponies? (Extra nosey emoticon)

Rosmerta, swimming, yoga AND walking are definitely the way to go

Went for my swim this morning and did 30 lengths. Need to knock five minutes off the time it takes so that it doesn't become impossible in term time. But it was bliss and I really felt that I'd exercised afterwards. Last night I went for a long walk which was very good for my soul and I am feeling much more balanced today. Have yoga planned this evening.

Happy Wednesday everyone

The one near us has rave reviews batters, but it's not that near us alas
Personal trainer utterly beyond my budget
WWW, am now wishing I had arranged MY Meeting yesterday instead of today, LOLOL
winnie, he really is a prize chump Wouldn't have been hearing about your dates by any chance would he?
16,000 steps yesterday, most of them stomping past sweary builders in a fume-filled crepuscular gloom. Thank goodness the only other colleague in is the one who cares even less about chaos than I do
Think of me today at noon as I go forth to meet My Doom

Now there's a thought batters. Equip your dd and mine with bull horns and a clipboard and we could franchise them out and make our fortunes.

winnie · 15/08/2007 10:03

Marina, good luck today

tigermoth · 15/08/2007 13:08

hi everyone, just a quick hello to say I am around and keeping up with this thread. WWW I didn't get the Tuesday reference for a good few minutes then realisation dawned - very funny!

Am impressed with all those who are doing a duo or trio of sports.

A green face to lucky Prufrock in paradise!

Hope'The Meeting' went well, Marina.

Winnie, glad you enjoyed your swim. I find water based exercise has the best feel good effect on me, too.

I am going to see if I can squeeze in a Lido swim tomorrow lunchtime if I can take a slightly longer lunch at work.

legalalien · 15/08/2007 16:57

marina - have absolutely no idea what your meeting is about (must have missed that thread!) but hope it went however you hoped that it went (this, despite the fact that you directed me to the potentially resource-draining look fantastic site - even I, who pretty much buys beauty products with the groceries online, am tempted)!

managed another one glass of wine and home cooked meal evening last night - no visible signs of improvement yet, although I think my eyes probably look a bit less yellow, and DH is appreciating the change in diet. Unfortunately I explained said change in diet by trying to explain the concept of a mumsnet bootcamp and am now having to put up with comments along the lines of "better not top your glass up dear, those bootcamp people will come and get you". Sigh. Well meant, I guess.

absolutely no way that I have the will power to cut down on carbs, so am going to try and cut down on dairy products (lattes on the way to work, cheese) instead. (for this purpose, read "dairy" as excluding butter for cooking, and I'm allowed as much coconut milk as I want.....

www - do tell where you are househunting so that I can waste lots of time looking at potential houses on the internet and annoying you with links

off to water cooler.....

yoyo · 15/08/2007 18:40

Hello everyone. Have decamped to my folks' house for the week so Bootcamp most definitely does not apply.

Have scanned thread but not up on everyone's news. House buying, budgetting, curvy gyms, horrible meetings, ex-H grief, TM's sad news, etc - will take me ages to catch upon all this.

Thinking of you all (so many very focussed bootcampers again).
