I had the news on earlier and they were talking about Meghan suing the DM.....apparently, she retains the copyright of what she wrote in the letter but by sending it, the paper it's written on is gifted to (and therefore the property of) the recipient. Interesting that there's very little criticism of Thomas Markle about for letting the paper have the letter in the first place. Anyway, I found the legal discussion about it all quite interesting.

SenecaFalls · 02/10/2019 22:32

Exactly. For example, I own Ian Rankin's latest Rebus book. I own the paper it's printed on. I don't own the right to scan it and post it on this forum or anywhere else.

RoseQuartzGlow · 02/10/2019 22:46

What kind of sane and loving parent would send a personal letter from their child to a national newspaper, knowing it would severely compromise their child’s position?

mathanxiety · 02/10/2019 22:48

Love KM's dress. There seems to be an updated early 70s vibe to it.

I agree her current hair colour washed her out and that the richer dark auburn / dark brown suits her better.

RoseQuartzGlow · 02/10/2019 22:50

I think Kate looks much better with more weight on her and agree the darker colour of her hair looks better too. I suspect she is going grey and it’s a move to blend in the grey.

DevonUkelele · 02/10/2019 23:27

I, for one, am not entirely sure Thomas Markle fits in the category of "sane and loving parent". He might be one of those three things 🤔

justasking111 · 02/10/2019 23:36

I had colour put in my hair to hide the grey was advised to go lighter.

RoseQuartzGlow · 02/10/2019 23:39

@Devon that was my point

CPM looks amazing in nearly all those gorgeous frocks.

DevonUkelele · 03/10/2019 01:39

Ah @Rose 😊. Then I am in furious agreement.

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/10/2019 07:35

@StCharlotte I think best-dressed royal is a toss up between her and Letizia as they very rarely get it wrong. They've mastered both daytime and evening wear and always look occasion-appropriate yet stylish.

So no cocktail party yesterday? Or did I miss it?

I loved Meghans white shirt dress, and I also like that long more formal pinky/beige one that she'd worn before. I think they're good looks for her! Kate looks fantastic in the long silk one and it feels a lot more contemporary than the coat dresses.

I was watching a video on youtube called 100 years of royal dressing or something (it wasn't great) and reflected that QE:s style hasn't changed since the 70s and she's infected the others with that being The Look.

BertrandRussell · 03/10/2019 08:33

I seem to remember the Queen branching out into much better hats when Diana and Sarah F came along. I’m sure it was noted at the time. And she really does have excellent hats.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 03/10/2019 08:42

I saw that item, kitty. The legal expert seemed to be suggesting they (H&M) will have more chance of winning the battle on copyright infringement than over publishing the contents, where they'd have to prove that it was edited deliberately to substantially change the meaning.

It will be really interesting to see how things pan out. My guess is the DM will settle out of court and find someone else to write about. Then in due course one of its journalists will publish a really damaging but unactionable book.

Rhubarbisevil · 03/10/2019 08:54

There is a special place in Hell for those DM writers and staff.

queenofarles · 03/10/2019 09:14

I just read on daily beast the Queen has no knowledge of the legal action, this bit sums up the DM vs M&H perfectly, and I guess they really don’t want her to be associated with them. Who can blame her for feeling that, but it will be harder to make them go away, the DM is getting what it wants , they will probably bring the whole family to the UK , and instead of making it about MM and the letter , it will be her dad and crazy step siblings nonstop , Confused

That HM certainly does @BertrandRussell, and I love her signature bright suits. But why the same black shoes with everything?? I know it's probably for comfort reasons but if anyone can get them made in any colour they want, it's her!

But why the same black shoes with everything??

Maybe it's her Queeny trademark, along with her hairstyle. Colour matching shoes is not a thing her generation did. I'm more interested in the fact that some poor lady in waiting has to break them in for her!

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/10/2019 09:26

They don't have to match exactly but a pair in brown or tan might be an idea!

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 03/10/2019 09:28

As for the breaking in, I wonder if they examine each LiW's feet to find the one most similar to HM's?

Actually, what does a LiW even do these days? I think it might be a job that'll die out with HM.

Stravapalava · 03/10/2019 11:19

I really want Kate to go for a modern lob! I think it’d look fab on her.

I had a dream once and she'd had her hair cut into a bob and everyone was raving about it. I don't think she ever will though, that glorious swishy mane of hers is her trademark!

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 03/10/2019 11:52

She will cut it to Leti’s length at some stage. Prob mid to late forties...,

Spudlet · 03/10/2019 12:32

Princess Anne still has LiW! I think they’re sort of super PAs who carry all the things and smooth the path for their Royal. Not sure, to be honest, but I know she has them because when she did visits to our charity we always had to make sure the LiW had suitable seats reserved near to HRH.

Do the younger ones have them too, or do they have assistants? And does anyone know what the difference is?

QueenOfTheAndals · 03/10/2019 12:36

I always think PAs do stuff like diary organisation and making sure all relevant documents relating to engagements is on hand etc.

LiWs seem to hark back to the days of Queen Victoria where they read aloud to the queen, or played music for her and brought her a fan or smelling salts!
