Estee Lauder Double Wear shade question

Does anyone know if it's suitable for pale skin? I've looked at swatches online but it's really hard to tell.

The closest I've ever came shade wise is Nars Siberia, because I'm pale but really yellow, but the formula is really bad for me so I can't wear it. Siberia is just the tiniest bit too pale, like half a shade.

From the swatches, EL DW looks really dark, but when I watch reviews on Youtube it doesn't look that bad?

Anyone own it that can tell me whether the lightest warm shade is dark? It looks like a lovely finish but it's quite pricey so don't want to buy it on a whim and not be able to use it. :)

I’m also really pale and use the shade ‘cool bone’ in double wear.

I actually just went to the Estée Lauder stall in Boots and they scanned my skin and told me what shade matched best Smile

I wear cool bone for foundation and then for setting powder I wear pale almond.

It makes me look slightly tanned but nothing major, just a little hint of sun kissed.

I’d go into the shop if you can and they will tell you what’s best for you.

I'm shade Siberia in NARS sheer and I'm Cool Bone in Estes Lauder Double wear Smile

Thank you :)

I had no idea they did this for other foundations, I thought it was just matched for their No 7 range, thanks! I'll deffo go in there.

Another Siberian, I feel like we're a rarity Grin Would you say the match is good? Like I say, I could definitely go a touch darker than the Nars shade, and I was worried Cool would be pinkish.

Siberia is slightly too light for me too and like you I lean more yellow. For ELDW my shade is Ivory Nude, Porcelain is too light. I found Cool Bone to be way too pink, my skin will show up any hint of pink in the foundation.

PennyNotSoWise · 30/09/2019 14:21

For ELDW my shade is Ivory Nude

Okay, that's interesting! I think undertones are so confusing and can make the same shade look so different on someone Grin My skin is very yellow, I was advised once to try Korean brands because they have great yellow shades, but I had no luck with them. Sigh.

Does the foundation oxidise at all? I've really wanted to try it for a long time, it seems to be many people's Holy Grail.

You can try a shade by either asking for a sample at a counter. I've obtained samples before so it is possible. Another way is to order a full bottle directly from Estée Lauder, try it out and return it if the shade doesn't work for you. I've done this before and they are really good at returns.
Double wear doesn't oxidise on me but you could be different.

jalopy · 30/09/2019 16:59

Have you tried the website 'Findation'? I was matched perfectly to Fresco Doublewear when I was struggling with the shades.

emma6776 · 30/09/2019 17:10

Estée Lauder are free and easy with their samples. They’ll colour match and give you a good size wee bottle to take home. Apparently it’s a 10 day sample but lasts me about 3 weeks!

WellTidy · 30/09/2019 17:14

I am Cool Bone (1C1) in Estee Lauder Double Wear light too. I am pale with pink undertones.

ittooshallpass · 30/09/2019 17:28

I am very pale and bought double wear SAND 1W2, but I find it too yellow for me! So for those looking for a yellow based shade this could be good for you.

Nippybutsweet · 30/09/2019 17:31

I've been using fresco for almost 15 years now. I'm Ginger and Scottish so pale blue is my natural colour Grin. You can get a tiny sample in a screw top bottle from the EL counter to try it before you commit to a purchase. The girls I go to always throw a free one in for me when I'm replacing mine so I'm sure if you explained they would be happy to oblige if it means they get sales down the line if. Best of luck x

There's no point guessing your shade, they have trained staff for a reason, why risk spending £30-£40 on a foundation you've guessed the shade of when they have staff to help you?

PennyNotSoWise · 30/09/2019 17:58

Yeah, I'm going to do that. I didn't realise they had one in Boots, I usually order from them online so haven't been in one for years.

It's good to know that the foundation suits pale-ies though. I'm a bit more optimistic that they'll have a shade for me Grin Thanks everyone.

Same as everyone else, I wear 1C1. Siberia is about half a shade too light for me due to yellowy undertones.

The first EL makeup counter lady matched me to warm vanilla, which is extremely pink and way too dark. The next matched me to dawn, it looked like false tan on me. So I disagree about going to counters blind, I always research what others with similar colouring go for first.

BusterGonad · 30/09/2019 18:05

Estée Lauder is one of the best for shade ranges as they have all different tones which is confusing, don't be put off by the pink under toned ones as they are used to counteract a yellow undertone, the problem these days is (what I've personally noticed) is the fashion for a very yellow thick foundation, to me it looks ugly and unnatural. In Double wear I think I'm Cool Vanilla. It's a nice pale pink slightly beige shade. It's too fair for me now as I'm constantly in the sun but it's perfect for blemishes and the like. TBH I find it very thick and only use a very fine layer over heavy moisturizer if I'm wearing it in the day.

BusterGonad · 30/09/2019 18:12

Here's Cool Vanila.
Just to add in Korean make up I'm very much a pink undertone to add brightness to my face, pink foundation isn't for pink skin, it's for sallow skin that needs brightening up (I learnt this at the Sulwhasoo $$$ make up counter) so never fear the pink undertones!

@Funghi what you need to do with foundation is draw lines on your jaw line, quite heavy ones of about 3 different shades, step outside of the store and take a good look. If you're still unsure take a few testers home. Don't forget if they match you wrong I'm pretty sure you can return it and complain. I'm pretty lucky with foundation as I'm freckly so if it's a bit dark it doesn't show so much iyswim!

PennyNotSoWise · 30/09/2019 18:51

Thanks Buster, your posts have been very informative. :)

The first EL makeup counter lady matched me to warm vanilla, which is extremely pink and way too dark.

Yeah, at Boots years ago when the shade matching was new, they matched me to Calico in their No 7 range, and I swear it was straight up brown. My half brother is mixed race and he let me try it on his skin (he'll kill me if he knows I'm telling anyone Grin) and it matched him perfectly. Confused So I don't know how they managed to fuck up the shade matching that bad. I'm hoping they've improved since then.

I've worn ELDW for the past couple of years and recently went to the counter to get matched again as my skin colour had shifted slightly and no longer blended well into my jawline.

They applied the foundation direct to my skin and let me see various shades in different lighting. While I bought a bottle, she also gave me a tester (those things last ages!) of the same colour for me to test out, so that if I late felt the colour wasn't right I could take the unused foundation back for a swap.

They are always lovely on the counters, so I would give it a go. The testers are a godsend for a trial as they normally last 2-3 weeks.

AgesAndAges · 30/09/2019 19:20

I'm pale with neutral undertones and I use 1n2. If you go to the counter they'll match you and give you samples of different shades if you're still unsure Smile

Zeldaaa · 30/09/2019 19:31

It sounds like you’re a similar colour to me. I previously used 1w1 - bone. This one isn’t pink like 1c1 - cool bone.

My best match is Mac nc10 if you’re not stuck on getting Estée Lauder.

snowone · 30/09/2019 19:33

You definitely need to go and get colour matched as they have different colour tones as well as different darknesses.

I'm blonde and reasonably pale and wear 2N1 - I think it's called desert beige

BusterGonad · 01/10/2019 02:09

Also, I went to buy the double wear cushion and was a different shade again, so always test first. I think it's always best to do it by eye, in natural light ON THE FACE!
