I need a dog walking coat.

I need a dog walking coat that is reasonably long, warm, waterproof and has decent pockets for poo bags and treats . I would also like something that doesn't make me look like I'm wearing a sack!

Can anyone recommend me a coat? I'm looking at up to £150 so can't afford a really expensive one. Having got drenched walking my puppy this last week, my elderly barbour isn't up to the job!

Love my Barbour but I need to re wax it!

But also have a couple of joules coats and really rate them. Others recommend sea salt too

MerryDeath · 29/09/2019 11:04

seasalt coats are v good for practicality

IncrediblySadToo · 29/09/2019 11:07

Ah hem - I don’t dont think we’ve had photos of the new addition yet have we?

Isn’t DS meant to be walking the soggy doggy?

NO coat recommendations, sorry.

FLOrenze · 29/09/2019 11:09

Helle Hanson have great waterproof stuff

Bananasandchocolatecustard · 29/09/2019 11:48

Seasalt Janelle coat. It’s long, 100% waterproof, has zip pockets and keeps me warm.

I’m a self-employed dog walker, so I often spend hours in wet, windy weather. This is my favourite walking coat:

IncrediblySadToo this is the hound (she is looking sadly into DD2's room as she was hankering after the dressing gown to chew Grin)

Unfortunately DS2 can't walk said soggy pup alone as he has autism and dyspraxia... quite entertaining to watch but neither can walk in a straight line so not safe for him to go alone and I have to do the early walk solo.

I'll have a look at the jackets mentioned so far, thanks!

The Seasalt Janelle is warm and waterproof, plus quite long which is useful when you can't find your waterproof overtrousers. I do however prefer the plant hunter, as the pockets are better for balls, poo bags, treats etc. Mine is now dead, (it has done many years service) and I have a hankering for a royal blue coat, which Seasalt don't do, so I'll keep an eye out here for any other suggestions.

I’m not ordinarily a dog person but that is one cute pup

CoolcoolcoolcoolcoolNoDoubt · 29/09/2019 15:46

Gorgeous puppy! Could you have your current Barbour re waxed?

MrsMozartMkII · 29/09/2019 15:52

Gorgeous pup!

Have you tried TK Maxx?

Lunaballoon · 29/09/2019 16:23

Another Helly Hansen raincoat fan here. I have this one, it’s warm, waterproof and around knee length. Excellent for walks in the rain.

XingMing · 29/09/2019 19:36

I have two Didrikson coats for dog walking; one is all seasons; the other has warm padding for cold weather. In a farm shop sale, the two cost 170. Knee length, with hoods and plenty of pockets for poo bags, keys, phone etc. Both are very waterproof.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 29/09/2019 22:25

I got one this week from Jack Murphy - had never heard of them before and googled dogwalking coat. I haven’t been out in a downpour yet but the reviews say it is waterproof and it’s actually v nice and warm and a nice shape. It was £90 down from £140.

I also have the crag hopper Mhairi someone else linked above. I bought it specifically for dog walking

mateysmum · 30/09/2019 08:02

Try Lands End. Really good quality - waterproof/windproof and they often have good discounts or sales on. I have several for dog walking depending on the season.

The best coat in the world is the Lands End Commuter Down coat. Toasty warm, waterproof, windproof, long, tailored, incredibly well-designed (you can get into your trouser pockets without opening the coat!).

Usually very expensive, but goes on Sale several times a year.

I've had several different coats fromLands End, and all have been excellent quality, so I wouldn't hesitate to try others - the non-down version, for example, or a shorter version.

nellyitsme · 30/09/2019 11:42

Landsend have an up to 75% off sale clearance on now - I've just ordered the hooded squall winter jacket £43 from £125.
