Keratin Smoothing Treatment - Help!

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can give me their experiences/opinions on Keratin smoothing treatments, I have just booked in to get this done and just want to make sure I am doing the right thing!

I went to Sri Lanka last December and I really struggled with my hair, it's quite long and normally has a nice wave to it (for work I usually leave it natural) but the humidity over there made it look awful. It didn't go into a wave at all and went so frizzy, if I straightened it after about 5 minutes it would just turn into a frizzy mess again which was the exact same when I curled it, they just dropped straight out and didn't hold.
I am going again this December and thought a Keratin treatment might be the right way to go!

Thank you Grin

Yes Keratin would work. My hair just turns to frizz in high humidity. Last year I got a Brazilian Blow Dry when I was on holiday in Thailand and my hair was straight with no frizz. It was also really flat and looked a bit greasy and needed washing every day.

Hi
I have the Keratin Smoothing Treatment - Nanokeratin - about 2 or 3 times a year. It is great and really makes a difference. My hair is in good condition, much easier to dry straight and so quick to dry too. Wouldn’t be without it.

I’ve recently had this done and it makes drying my thick, frizzy hair so much easier. Takes less time and I don’t need to straighten it to reduce the frizz.

I did mine at home (as suggested by many other MNers) and it worked really well. However, salt will break it down so if you're swimming in the sea then it may not last long.

@Swisskit can I ask what products you used to do it at home please? Also once you’ve done it is is still possible to put a wave in (with tongs or GHDs) or does it ‘set’ your hair straight!? Fascinated but clueless here!!

I am going to Singapore and am wary of huge hair so was also thinking of this

it will be brilliant for humidity frizz. It doesn't actually straighten your hair, it just makes it behave better, so it's easier to style and it stays smoother in bad weather.

My hair does what yours did in Sri Lanka the entire time in the U.K. it is horrible hair and I never look groomed because it’s a frizzy mess within seconds of stepping out of the door even when I’ve just straightened it. I have tried so many products and none of them helped.

I had Kerastraight done a few months ago and it’s been great. Be warned - it doesn’t take very well on the more damaged parts of your hair. My ends were great with it for the first month and then reverted to frizz, but I then had a lot cut off and the rest of my hair has been really manageable and lovely with it. I’m 3 months in and it’s just starting to wear off slowly now.

You can put a wave in your hair, but for the first couple of weeks it probably won’t stay in. After that it behaves more like normal (but non frizzy) hair.

Well, I have thick hair that goes frizzy and I had it done before going to Vietnam and it was fairly useless! Sorry! I had such high hopes too!

I used the old amazon kit and what it did was:
Take away 95% of frizz
Soften the wave but didnt make it poker straight
Drying abd ghd straightening took half the time it normally does
No poofy frizz after straightening and going out

Last a good 4 months then hair gradual got frizzier.i used shampoo with no salts and dont swim in sea or pool.

I used the kit in amazon now a second time and my hair roots seemed so greasy easily.

I normally go 3 days no wash looking fine but withkeratin wash every day or second day maybe ok withdry shampoo.
I never tried to curl it.
