Acne cream

What cream / ointments are good for acne.
I used to buy panoxyl 10 over the counter but it's not available anymore.
Is it available on prescription
I'm due to see GP about other issues but if I can suggest something to GP any one recommends?
It's not facial acne, it's embarrassingly on my bum, the occasional big spot that takes ages to go, it's really getting me down.
Any suggestions?

Acnecide is 5% benzoyl peroxide and available OTC. I've not noticed a massive difference over the 10%. There are often supply issues and it's about 3x the cost but has been a miracle for my skin for 15 years so sticking with it

Brandnewshit · 24/09/2019 00:48

Thank you.
I'm not sure if the panoxyl 10 is a supply issue or if 10% isn't available over the counter only now.

Bio oil worked wonders for me

Brandnewshit · 24/09/2019 00:56

Terktalk, do you mean for getting rid of spots or reducing redness after they've gone?

I use Duac for acne on my face. it's very effective.

Sunshinelollipops1 · 24/09/2019 01:02

I’ve been prescribed Epiduo by my dermatologist.

Panoxyl is no more. I use the identical version by Rugby. It's available in the UK from ebay www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=benzoyl+peroxide+10+rugby, but I buy it cheaper from the US www.amazon.com/Rugby-Acne-Medication-10-42-5gm/dp/B0036IV7MS?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 in bulk. It's available in all strengths though I've linked to the 10, and delivery is quick.

@Wonkybanana what is best the green or purple? Thank you

Wonkybanana · 24/09/2019 13:46

Soola they're the same. The green image on Amazon is the old packaging and hasn't been updated. The purple on the ebay link is the current packaging. But if you buy from Amazon, what you get is new stock in the purple box.

Soola · 24/09/2019 13:54

@Wonkybanana thank you very much.

MumUndone · 24/09/2019 14:15

Acnecide 5% will work just as well as 10% benzoyl peroxide, just less drying.

Soola · 24/09/2019 14:51

@MumUndone Panozyl was the holy grail of pore unblocking and spot prevention. Acnecide did nothing for me.

Brandnewshit · 24/09/2019 19:48

Thank you for the link, I've looked high and low for a 10% cream.

Salicylic acid will help. Cerave do a cream for bumpy skin and a number of people recommend it for the butt. I don’t have bumps on my butt but I use it on my entire body and it’s the smoothest it’s ever been. Hope that helps. I’d also recommend a glycolic body wash, the one from pixi is great.
