Style book app

I downloaded the app last night after seeing a few posters mention it. I've been keeping a wardrobe diary on my phone for the last 3 months in an attempt to move away from fast fashion and shop my wardrobe and the tools on Stylebook look great for this. I'm just not sure what to use as a background for taking the pics. Our bedroom carpet is a (horrid) neutral beige colour but will that be ok? I could hang from the back of my oak bedroom door I guess but it says lay flat. Something white would be better, don't have any white sheets though. What do those of you who have it use please?

Can't help with your question I'm afraid but is there an android version of style book do you know? Or can anyone recommend a good equivalent?

FiveStoryFire · 22/09/2019 16:41

I've got it but haven't kept it up to date. Every time you buy something new though, you can screenshot it from the website and use that.

Talisin · 22/09/2019 16:56

It has an edit option so it doesn’t matter too much what the background colour is. There’s an auto edit function which takes out the majority of the background and then a manual edit that you can tidy up with if needed. Personally I use the (white) bathroom door but in your case I’d use the beige carpet.

I have no personal experience of either, but Android-wise the ones that I’ve seen get mentioned most are Chicisimo and Your Closet.

I tend to search for the item online or Pinterest and take a screenshot of a stick photo. You can usually find things going back 3-4 years.

Ellapaella · 22/09/2019 17:14

Stock photo not stick photo Blush

FleurNancy · 22/09/2019 17:27

Oh I hadn't thought of using stock photos! Mind you, I haven't bought much in the way of new stuff for yonks, lots is pre-loved. I'll go with the carpet then, hadn't even thought there might be an edit option.

It took me a while to get the hang of the edit option! I use stock photos and when not available a white cupboard door. Beige carpet would be fine.

Couple of tips: when you first upload the photo, use the crop feature as tightly as you can around the garment (it will be easier to recognise in your thumbnails).

You can adjust the size of the eraser, and the strength of the "tap" feature (to "clear" a particular area), which is particularly handy when you've taken the photo yourself so have an uneven background.

Shitonthebloodything · 22/09/2019 18:36

I have Android and it's not available on there so I use a similar one called your closet which is great but the editing options aren't quite as good. I search for stock images of my clothes mostly or find someone selling it on eBay and pinch their pic.

Be aware that if you change your phone or accidentally delwte the app you lose everything from stylebook. I've doubled all my pics up on a secret Pinterest board this time just in case.

Talisin · 22/09/2019 19:32

You can back up Stylebook to iCloud and redownload to a new phone. There’s a how-to in the Help & Tutorials section.

Tryingtogetitright · 23/09/2019 07:29

If you hang clothes on the door you can use double sided sellotape to stick them flat for the photo (might be too much hassle but was a tip I saw on here for selling on ebay!)

jessstylebook · 23/09/2019 16:54

@FleurNancy The automatic background removal tools work best when you use background that is solid color that contrasts with the item. I often use a solid sheet or bulletin board paper from the craft store. Basically as long as it is a completely different color than the clothes it will work well. I generally buy bulletin board paper in a color I never wear like lime green because then it will work with most of my clothes.

How to setup photos:

You can definitely hang your clothes on a door or lay them out on the floor. Just use the same background rules.

If you don't want to take photos you can add photos from almost any website using the web Clipper tool or Universal Clipboard.

How to use the clipper:

.
I hope that helps!

I think I am going to try out the app. How often do people use it? Can you incorporate it easily into your life? And can I use it for daydreaming about outfits I can’t afford/won’t suit?

Zinnia · 24/09/2019 23:35

I use it daily as my outfit planner/ wish list keeper/ shopping memo/ place to work out what I would wear that new thing I'm lusting over with (to stick to the rule of thumb about needing to have at least three things that will go with the new thing) etc. But I've been using it for years so the undoubtedly tedious and time-consuming setup is far behind me!

But yes I also use it for clothes daydreaming and it's brilliant for copying looks you see on Instagram the street with stuff you already have. I've just started a new job and it's one less thing to stress about in the mornings knowing that I already have my work outfits for the next couple of weeks planned out.

PersonaNonGarter · 25/09/2019 08:31

Thanks, I feel inspired!

I have started uploading things and did multiple upload last night. Couldn’t find the Jumpsuit category. I may need to make one.
