Nike Air Force 1 or Stan Smiths

I’m looking for a white pair of trainers to go with jeans/dresses etc. I need them to be comfy and look good but I’m early 40s and don’t want to look like I’m trying to hard. Which are best or something else?

I'm early 40s too and wear both.

For me, I think they strike the right balance between stylish and not trying too hard.

The very 90s style Falcons or Balenciaga style trainers are a bridge too far for me though I'm afraid.

Personally, I prefer Stans in white and AF1s in Black, but think that's a matter of individual choice.

You'll find white trainers harder to style as winter draws in though, they do look a bit odd with black tights IMO.

Ah right. Fair point. I hadn’t thought of that. Maybe I should be looking for black. So what do you reckon if I’m going for black? I saw some gorgeous nike internationalist with a gold tick but I can’t find them anywhere in my size!

I just got a pair of silver new balance for the same thing. I thought white wouldn't be a good idea with the crappier weather. They're so comfy and look great.

I have both white AF1 and Grey Stan Smiths which I wear more in winter. They are getting a bit knackered so I am looking for something similar to wear with trousers and skirts, was thinking of some veja?

I bought fitflop white ‘sneakers’ for the summer & they are great. No logos & flattering to my legs as nicely cut & extremely comfortable with no wearing in time. I’m 50 though, so different age bracket.
I’m looking at off white ankle boots at the mo, but so have some burgundy ones from earlier this year to wear with midi dresses.
Ankle boots for day dresses & am also looking at the slouch boots.

I love the look of the veja but I’m sure I’ve read on here that they’re not very comfortable

I've got wide feet so the Stan Smiths were out for me but I ADORE my AF1's. They are the most comfy footwear I have ever had and go with pretty much everything. I bought them in early June and have worn them so much I'm considering buying another pair in a slightly different colour (mine are white with yellow sole and Swoosh) to alternate a bit!

Either is fine from a fashion viewpoint. I'm an Adidas girl though so Stan Smiths all the way. I don't wear them with black tights though but because they are leather they are the trainers I wear most when the weather isn't great.

I have a pair of Veja Esplars, I find them very similar to Converse in feel, they have a flat footbed so if you have foot problems already you might find them uncomfortable. They are more like a plimsole than a sports trainer. Perfectly comfortable for my healthy feet.

Gotakeahike · 22/09/2019 06:32

I love my AF1s. I can walk miles in them and have gotten plenty of compliments (they’re and unusual color/material combo) I like the look of Stan Smiths, but they just don’t fit me right. Fit might be your deciding factor.

I find Nike more comfortable than a lot of Adidas which tend to be very very flat. Depends on your feet tho.

zippyswife · 22/09/2019 11:03

Ok so I ordered the AF1, Nike internationals (they have like a yellow-y sole), Adidas continental vulc in white and a pale grey. Will have a try on and hopefully keep one. Thanks for the advice!
