High society wedding - help me!

I have been invited to the wedding of one of my DP's friends in early spring.

Safe to say I will have never been to a wedding like this before!

The couple are v posh (school with Royalty etc) and it will be morning suits for to men and I have no idea what women wear apart from seeing pictures of Kate Middleton etc at weddings but I think that might be a bit OTT.

I don't want to look like I'm trying to be something I'm not but I just don't want to make a faux pas. I'm early 30's quite petite but big boobs.

Well to do MN, please advise me!

A nice dress, sth to cover your shoulders (little jacket or pashmina) and some head gear.

QuaterMiss · 20/09/2019 16:46

Depends on your budget.

Try Matches.com if flexible.

& Other Stories if strapped for cash.

Dollywilde · 20/09/2019 16:47

A proper hat is a must I think!

KellyHall · 20/09/2019 16:52

Monsoon have beautiful occassion wear with accessories. Have your hair and make-up done to match the location/outfit/weather.

BoudicasBoudoir · 20/09/2019 18:54

Wear a hat, not a fascinator.

Avoid clubbing heels and open toe shoes.

Cerseirys · 20/09/2019 18:59

Don't try too hard OP - judging by the posh weddings I've seen featured in the likes of Tatler, all the guests will be dressed terribly!

tierraJ · 20/09/2019 19:11

Ellie Goulding married an aristocrat with royalty present recently.
The photos of the guests were in OK & Hello.

Lots of high neck flouncy midi dresses with long sleeves.
Add court shoes, a bag & a hat or fascinator & maybe a plain pashmina & you're sorted.

FenellaMaxwell · 20/09/2019 19:12

What’s your budget?

tierraJ · 20/09/2019 19:13

In fact I'm just going to get my OK magazine out now

JoJoSM2 · 20/09/2019 19:16

IMO, if you're 50, then wear a hat. But if you're 25, you can definitely get away with a fascinator.

tierraJ · 20/09/2019 19:19

Right. Sienna Miller & Tracy Emin wore no headgear.

But the aristos wore hats, fascinators & strange headband style things see pics of Cressida bonas & Eugenie in headband things

In fact Eugenie was wearing the perfect flattering neckline for you OP as you say you have bigger boobs.
Maybe look for something similar?

@tierraJ thank you so much!

Lots of high neck flouncy midi dresses with long sleeves.

^^ this is exactly what I want!

@FenellaMaxwell Maybe a few hundred for the dress, if I feel great in it!

Hello op
Just a word of warning. A friend recently went to a wedding where the groom also has royal connections. She spent a few hundred on a lovely dark floral dress and someone else turned up in exactly the same outfit. She didn't mind but got glaring looks from those around her doppelganger all evening.
So, if you can, maybe shop in lesser known shops or, if you've got time, try vintage.

FenellaMaxwell · 20/09/2019 20:02

I wouldn’t go for a hat or a fascinator - I would get one of those big thick padded headbands.

FenellaMaxwell · 20/09/2019 20:10

Have a look at Coco Fennell dresses, Whistles, Ganni, Maje and Sandro.

FenellaMaxwell · 20/09/2019 20:12

In terms of headwear, something like this? Asos have them.

@FenellaMaxwell love that! Thank you :)

The actual dress that everyone wears to society weddings is by The Vampire’s Wife, and it’s about £1000 but there’s plenty of dupes around.

MaybeitsMaybelline · 20/09/2019 20:22

I feel for you OP.

So many confident responses, do all these people on MN regularly go to aristocratic weddings?

No advice, but I am excited for you. It will be fabulous I bet.

FenellaMaxwell · 20/09/2019 20:25

@MaybeitsMaybelline no - all my school friends are long married now, but I’m looking forward to the impending divorces and round of weddings #2..... Grin

lazyarse123 · 20/09/2019 20:51

I saw some of the dresses at Ellie Goulding wedding and they were some of the ugliest things I have ever seen. I do like the dress that Eugenie is wearing above.

LunaTheCat · 20/09/2019 20:55

Judging by Royal Weddings on TV everyone looks terrible ! - apart from Amal Clooney that is but you could put a sack on her and she’d still look amazing! What about William and Catherine’s wedding where one of Andrews Girls wore something closely resembling a toilet seat on her head.

westcountrychicken · 20/09/2019 20:55

Oh my god are those padded felt headbands in fashion again? Did we not all suffer enough as children?!

SamanthaBrique · 20/09/2019 21:00

Quite @LunaTheCat, all I've taken away from weddings to which I've been is that the upper classes have no idea how to dress!
