What colour tights with brown boots?

In winter?

I want a pair of Spanish riding-boot style brown leather boots this winter as longer boots seem to be coming back in. But I'm also trying to get out of the jeans rut and wear more skirts. So if I'm wearing, say, a navy or olive green or mustard skirt finishing just above the knee - what colour tights would you pair with that and brown boots? Black? Brown? Navy?

(I don't do brightly-coloured tights (have tried, looked awful on me) so don't really want to get into green or mustard etc tights. Just wondering what will blend in best between skirt hem and top of boots.)

Navy if you don’t fancy colour tights. Tan boots sounds nice btw

If you're looking for the gap between skirt and boot to blend then wear tights in either same colour as the boots or same colour as the skirt.

Hmmm. I take ocie's point about matching tights with either skirt or boots rather than introducing a third colour. Navy tights I have and can wear if the skirt is navy, then.

Does anyone actually wear brown tights these days...? For some reason I have a bit of a block about them - somehow they seem to have a whiff of "American tan" about them. I googled for inspiration and got endless pictures of a young Kate Middleton apparently wearing long brown boots with short skirts and bare legs, back in the day.
