Face Powder for a 45 year old

I always thought you had to wear powder to stop foundation sliding off. But now I'm getting some lines I'm worried I look 119 when I wear powder.

I have crap skin and I'm always tired, so I wear double wear light. I'm sure ive tried most decent and low end powder, including hourglass, mac, channel, rimmel.

Can anyone suggest make up to make my skin look ok and not ancient. Thanks

I’m older than you and at the moment I’m using Mac, Urban Decay or Chantecaille.

Mac

I put powder under foundation, seems to help keep the foundation in place.

I'm 43 & I only apply face powder once or twice during the day, & only on my tzone. I have combination skin.

I wear Clinique Superprimer on my tzone after moisturiser which seems to take away the shine & then wear Boots No7 BB cream with Clinique oil free foundation in places that need a little more coverage.

I only put powder on if I get a bit shiny later, i only have fine lines round my eyes when I smile so I don't put any powder there.

The powder I use is Clinique stay matte sheer pressed powder oil free 101 invisible matte.

I think that if you are using the correct primer & foundation for your skin you shouldn't need to use much powder.

There is a bobby brown illuminating one that’s amazing. Can’t recall the name but if you go to the counter they will help you. Bobby brown stuff is just gorgeous.

Thank you all for these suggestions.

Does anyone use spray? Am I thinking of setting spray?

I was finding that my old face powder was just sitting in my pores and fine lines. Someone recommended L'Oreal True Match powder and it's absolutely brilliant - just a really good, air-brush-ey look that never sits horribly on my skin and always sets my foundation well.

tierraJ · 17/09/2019 16:12

Urban Decay do a makeup setting spray

tierraJ · 17/09/2019 16:13

I haven't used it as I don't wear much foundation but it's supposed to be good

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 17/09/2019 16:20

Im older than you OP and use boots no 7 mineral powder. I don’t wear foundation though as I hate the way it feels so just a little of this powder over my forehead and nose is enough.

Treaclebee · 17/09/2019 16:24

I like Jane Iredale. It's very very fine.

Sorry I have no experience of setting spray.

worldsworststepfordwife · 17/09/2019 16:27

Pixiwoo is in her 40s and keeps talking about a byterry cc powder being v good, I’ve still got hourglass to get through so no idea about others

Ladybird37 · 17/09/2019 16:32

By terry hylauronic hydra powder from space nk is really good, doesn’t look powdery on my skin

Ichangedmynameonce · 17/09/2019 22:55

Ooooh thanks everyone. I think sali hughes might talk about by Terry too.

I’ve just recommended this powder on another thread, Boot’s Natural Collection pressed powder. I’m 46 & this powder is brilliant, I got it after a recommendation on here, doesn’t make my face look powdery at all & it’s only £1.99.

Ichangedmynameonce · 18/09/2019 21:25

1.99!!! I'm getting it.

Thanks

If you're not greasy then you don't need it!! Use a setting spray.

tappitytaptap · 19/09/2019 19:54

@youvegottobekidding wow! I need to try this as I have noticed my Rimmel one looking a bit cakey over Double Wear, but I love the Double Wear finish.

youvegottobekidding · 20/09/2019 11:16

I use to use the Rimmel one too, until I tried the Natural Collection, much better IMO.

Gwenhwyfar · 21/09/2019 10:54

Just wear long-stay foundation and no powder?
