Ribbed cotton grey tights - seeking desperately

momo01 · 15/09/2019 20:53

I saw a lady wearing grey ribbed thick tights the other day and thought they looked lovely and cosy for winter. I've googled and googled but can't find ones that are all of the following:

  • grey
  • ribbed
  • cotton

Can anyone help me? I'll accept cotton mix and navy... if relevant, I'm early 30s but enjoy dressing like a grandma. Thank you.

Can't see what shade of grey these are but they seem to fit the criteria. £20.99 though!

I've seen some in next, but they might have been cable not ribbed

@Branster I was surprised h&m didn't have any, but you're right, it's probably too early for them. I'll wait for A/W collection...

Are the H&M ones ok for the taller individual? (I'm 5 10 and size 8, and lots of tights have a big crotch gap unless I go for large - should I go large at H&M too?)

momo1 they come really snug so a bigger size than S (which is what would work with a size 8) would be better. Also, their sizing changed over the last year and I can never tell what fits me with them anymore. I love H&M so don’t want to give up on the brand but I now order size 4, 6 and 8 when I used to be 6 and 8 with them depending on fabric and cut. The current 4 is an European 32 which is what the previous 6 used to be. I’m skinny so not all of their clothes sit properly on my hips with the new sizing. However they have lower cut than usual at the top so fits a longer torso better with some dress styles.
They do nice colours too, apart from grey (from really dark charcoal to light) and black I also found a dusty navy blue and the aforementioned light olive. I have been collecting over the last 10 years and never had to throw any away. If they snag on a chair you just pull the thread through inside. The seam at the toes gets holes every now and then if I wear them with high heels too often but that’s easy enough to repair with a stitch. Investment for life really Grin
Would something like this be any good? www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0297078002.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw5fzrBRASEiwAD2OSV7mSCjbi6TK7RqJwwZtEC5jq6oZ12otQzLn25SXZXy4gCsBUH2NyxxoCFgMQAvD_BwE&ef_id=CjwKCAjw5fzrBRASEiwAD2OSV7mSCjbi6TK7RqJwwZtEC5jq6oZ12otQzLn25SXZXy4gCsBUH2NyxxoCFgMQAvD_BwE:G:s&s_kwcid=AL!850!3!362702674066!!!g!666395742860!

These would look like wool tights but you don’t sweat in them

Nagabagasaurus · 16/09/2019 18:25

The best rights in towns, that fit all shapes and sizes including maternity are Snags UK. They do a 80 denier in grey (as well as lots of other amazing colours). Fit well and wash well. They don't do ribbed but you will love them... Just £6.99 per pair. Xxxx

GenuineKlatchianPottery · 16/09/2019 19:14

As someone else suggested White Stuff always do nice tights. But I’ve also bought mine in Boots and they’ve been great and a fraction of the price.

momo01 · 16/09/2019 19:17

@GenuineKlatchianPottery I'll check white stuff now, thank you!

@Branster they look so cosy! Question is, are they itchy? I note they're not cotton. I have dark memories of squirming in itchy tights throughout my 7 years at secondary school...

Here you go.

momo01 · 16/09/2019 19:31

@SleepyKat thank you, and I swear I'm not a moron, I did look at H&M and used their search function!

No, I believe you. I looked yesterday and didn’t find them. So I think maybe they’ve just been added today! Grin

Branster · 16/09/2019 22:04

I think they might have just come in stock at H&M. No they are not itchy at all, I promise you. I’m not sure you can return tights, if you order a size M and an L to decide which fits best for longer legs. Then use the one which is best and accept it costs £20 instead of £10.…
