I want a new coat every winter ...

... but it feels really frivolous! I get so fed up though of wearing the same coat all the time and if it's a really cold winter (which has been forecast), I know what I'll do. I'll put on my thigh-length black puffa with fur trim and live in it from Dec-Apr, because it's the only one I have that actually keeps me warm. Does anyone else buy a new one every winter? There's a mum in DS2's class who has the exact same winter coat as me too, which makes it even worse!

Yes me too. It always feels like I wear the previous year's coat to death and I can barely bear to look at it! Wierdly I keep it and can wear it again two years later - I don't spend a lot on the coats - £20ish - so have no prob lem justifying a new one.

I always have multiple coats on the go. Smart ones for work (I used to be a consultant in Financial Services so it was all part of the image) and more casual/practical ones for non-work. I always try to buy good quality but wait for the sales/go to an outlet/sample sale etc. As a result, I have a HUGE number of coats, some going back well over a decade. I've bought multiple coats for this winter and I can't wait for it to get colder so I can actually wear them!!! I've been gutted that it's been warm this weekend. Bring on the cold!!

(I think it's genetic. My father is also addicted to coats. Wink)

Me too Blush
Maybe we should start a coat swap thread?

Get yourself a new thigh length puffa coat in a different colour. Then you can alternate them when the weather gets cold.

zafferana · 17/09/2019 09:48

Yes, I think that's probably the answer millefiori. Uniqlo has some really nice down coats that I've got my eye on ....

I have three winter coats - a thick waterproof hooded coat for wet weather (bought for a holiday to Iceland 2 years ago, £35 in the sale), a gorgeous mustard colour parka (not waterproof, Christmas present about 4 years ago) for cold, dry weather, and a black faux fur and suede dress coat for going out (£5 in a charity shop, 2 years ago).
I keep my winter coats for ages so I don't feel frivolous having several on rotation.

Ninkaninus · 17/09/2019 10:06

I usually want 5 or 6 new coats every winter!

alieninvasion · 17/09/2019 10:14

Oh is that normal?! Smile

Ninkaninus · 17/09/2019 10:18

Haha I’m not sure!

I don’t buy that many, but I definitely would be sorely tempted if I had the budget for it!

tentative3 · 17/09/2019 10:31

I have:

A north face Arctic parka, bought at a reduced price for a snowy city break

A long wool ted baker coat for weddings/posh occasions/when I feel like swanning around being all fancy

A coatigan thing that gets a huge amount of wear as something to chuck on whenever it's a bit chilly

A recently acquired cape!

A North Face gilet for cold dry country walks (I'm warm blooded so the air to my pits is gratefully received) and car boot sales in the colder months

Some of those I've had for years so I don't really feel guilty. The only thing I'm missing is a raincoat really. I had a joules one but sold it after deciding I looked too much like a toddler. I do need a replacement really.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 17/09/2019 10:37

I love coats and as I seem to be a different size every year (yo yo dieter) I always seem to need a new one.
I picked up a lovely coat last week for £40 at Debenhams so doesn't have to break the bank.

Also want new boots every year. Something about autumn makes me want to buy clothes and shoes!

Mumshappy · 17/09/2019 10:39

I get one every year and just add to my collection so I've got about 15 in my under stairs cupboard. I rotate them after wearing the new one for a while.

I’ve had to get rid of so many coats and jackets recently because they were realistically not ever going to fit me again. Including six leather or suede jackets. I’m still feeling bereft. Sad Sad

Atm I’ve got

Barbour quilted jacket in olive green
Barbour quilted jacket in navy
Leather jacket in forest green
Leather jacket in burnt orange
Joules waxed trench
Baukjen cotton trench in navy
Lauren Ralph Lauren cotton trench in beige
Topshop single breasted coat in muted leopard print
Jaeger wool coat in deep red
Jaeger wool coat in camel/burgundy/black
Jigsaw wool coat in navy
Mango military wool coat in olive green
Banana republic short military jacket in khaki
New Look imitation suede biker jacket in sunflower yellow

This winter I’m looking at getting another barbour quilted coat in black. That’s probably the only thing I’ll be able to afford but I’d really also like a pea coat in either black or navy.
