What kind of coat do you wear when it's raining?

I had a good chuckle at the teddy bear coat thread where it was suggested they look like a wet dog when it's raining - I've never worn one in the rain but can completely see how that would be true.

Anyway. I have far too many coats but most of them are either wool, faux fur, leather or cotton trench types. When it's chucking it down I wear a parka I bought from Next in 2006 which is still going strong - no other coat has ever lasted me so long - but I could do with another option now I have the unavoidable school run. Up until now I've got away with boots and an umbrella and refusing to go outside if the rain is horizontal.

So I'm wondering what everyone else wears when it's really miserable out?

@evilharpy - Seasalt have an offer on now of £15 off a £100 spend - £10/£75 or £25/£150

Oops just seen you didn't like Seasalt!

Cotswold Outdoor also often have offers on Didriksons (Another S&B thread this week on jackets to watch rugby had a lot of links)

I've ordered this from Joules. I quite like it from the photos but we'll see what it's like when it arrives. If I'm not keen I'll have a look at Didriksons, thanks chocolateteabag.

Protected species commuter for rainy but not too cold. Didriksons parka for rainy and cold.

Protected Species mac for late spring-early autumn.

When it's wet and cold I struggle as I love wool coats but can't stand umbrellas. I've got the Seasalt Janelle and I cannot fault it for efficiency but I've never taken to it. I'd love to find an alternative that I actually like. (Would have to be knee length, with hood and not jaunty.)
