End of Karen millen

I’m feeling sad that Karen millen has come to an end. I’m 34 and it’s been my treasured shop for 2 decades. 95 per cent was nothing special, but for the odd dress, skirt, or cardigan, it was utterly amazing.

Where else can I buy smart, elegant, creative, well cut, not-cheap-not-expensive, long lasting garments now? Are there any new brands out there that are similar that I might not have heard about?

If boohoo have fired all the pattern cutters I can’t see how the new ‘Karen millen’ part of boohoo will be anything like it’s been. I’m not a fan of boohoo.

Ted baker ? Tbh everything you bought from Karen Mullen was instantly recognisable at weddings and christenings there was a good chance someone else might match you or you’d spot it as “last years”

lindyloo57 · 14/09/2019 17:42

Inliverpool1 I sometimes think the same about ted baker, specialy ther dresses you can spot them a mile off.

TheFaerieQueene · 14/09/2019 17:44

Reiss
Whistles

Not shocked. I do a lap of that shop every time i'm in my local shopping centre and I walk straight back out again. I see the odd thing I like but it's always so over priced.

moonpiggle · 14/09/2019 17:53

Agree about the price. I do see alot of Karen Millen clothing in the charity shops.

Propertyofhood · 14/09/2019 19:55

I don't think I ever bought anything from Karen Millen, even in my Kookai/French Connection/Ted Baker/Coast days of shopping for a special occasion!

I found it expensive for what it was and nothing ever fit me nicely.

gubbsywubbsy · 15/09/2019 15:59

Its all in tk maxx .. lots of bargains !

Fluffycloudland77 · 15/09/2019 20:24

It fitted me perfectly but the last few years have been dire.

LeithWalk · 15/09/2019 21:29

Loads on eBay too!

TableNiner · 16/09/2019 12:03

I guess ‘95% was nothing special’ kind of sums it up.
Esprit sometimes have nice stuff but I wouldn’t say it was edgy or particularly fashion forward

RonaldMcDonald · 16/09/2019 13:00

It was always so overdone, I am surprised it lasted as it felt incredibly date

evilharpy · 16/09/2019 13:21

Do you like Hobbs, Jigsaw, Reiss, Whistles?

Unburnished · 16/09/2019 20:33

I used to love KM as it was one of the few high street shops to produce well cut clothes with a waist.

It often strayed into garish Territory though and the quality had been declining over recent years.

They also seemed to be obsessed with making everything in black and that, combined with the severe cuts often gave the items a ‘done up like a dog’s dinner at a funeral’ air.

glamour24 · 19/09/2019 22:42

Thank-you so much for replying ladies, it gives me loads to think about. I have overdone Reiss too though! It was just the cut of KM clothes that fitted me perfectly and being a mum of a three year old I always shop online. Who knows maybe boohoo might surprise us
