Oh my god.....I need themed party help

Hi

My best friend is having a 90s themed birthday party in a few weeks.

I can not think what to wear. Some people are going in fact dress (spices girls etc) some people are going in the sort of clothes they wore in the 90s.

Except I was in my teens in the 90s. I generally wore Adidas poppers or combat trousers with vest tops (must have been channeling all saints). Or my school uniform.

But as a skinny teenager it was fine. As a size 16, 37 year old I really dont want to go in Trackie bottoms.

Anyone got any suggestions? I don't want to spend alot since I probably wont where it again.

Thank you.

Do you have any doc martens? I'd wear them with ripped or fishnet tights and a short skirt. A line or denim if possible. Plain t shirt, choker necklace (bit of ribbon) and hair in white girl bantu knots or twisted up in butterfly clips. Makeup would be lip liner in a darker shade than the lipstick, vibrant sparkly eye shadow and draw your eyebrows really skinny. Should be able to find all that in what you already have or very cheap in a charity shop

could you wear a shirt like this, a pair of leggings, leg warmers and fishnet gloves?

CodenameVillanelle · 14/09/2019 12:27

I mean you can't find doc martens cheap if you don't already have them but trainers would do at a pinch

Don't forget a bindi or face dots a la Gwen stefani

Black leggings, a colourful windbreaker jacket and a hair scrunchie on your wrist.

Double denim!

90s grunge look with plaid shirt, jeans, a choker, and lots of eyeliner.

Nivarna T-shirt, plaid shirt worn unbuttoned over the top, baggy jeans and DMs, or a slip dress over a white T-shirt, space buns, face glitter and DMs plus ying yang jewellery or a choker. That was me in the 90s.

Spice girls, or go as a raver

LizzieMacQueen · 14/09/2019 12:45

Would you dare go as a 90 year old? Say you mis understood the invitation.

Oh my god you are all amazing! So many great ideas.

I dont have DC, but I think mim has some of my old Kickers that I had in the 90s (she keeps everything). I didnt think of that.

I am loving the grunge look and the fishnet gloves! And the bindis and face glitter....I need to pick a look. Lol.

I would love to go as a 90 year old. However, long story short, best friend had a fucked up childhood. Parents alcoholics and she has never had a birthday party. We are as close as sisters and we are discussing plans at length. I am the only one that will help her out and will get ready with her. So wouldnt find me dressing as a 90 year old woman funny.

She is actually an incredible person and incredible friend. But this party holds a lot of emotional weight for her. And I order her 1990s birthday cake.

Hair and make up is fine as I booked someone I know to do both our hair and make up. So that's fine. I just need to tell her what look.

Grunge seems a good one. I have cheap Jean's I can rip a bit and a nirvana t shirt. Just need a plaid shirt. But then I want the leg warmers too Grin

I've said this on here before but the best 90s costume imo is a member of the KLF.

Paper boiler suit from Poundland
Whistle
Workman's face mask
Trainers.

Tilltheendoftheline · 14/09/2019 13:35

keiratwiceknightly that's such a good idea. I actually have a couple of boiler suits.

I used to di half marathons with my dad and we used to wear them to keep warm and race day before the run started. We could rip them off and bin them. As we set off. We bulk bought so still have a few left!!!! Grin
