Joules

What do we think if joules? Who buys it?

OP posts:
Duckswaddle · 10/09/2019 16:34

I find Joules ok for kids stuff but the adults clothes wash terribly and don’t last - all of the things I’ve bought for me have ended up with holes in after a few washes.

Cohle · 10/09/2019 16:40

I think it can be a bit "mum in the school run". But I do quite like their anoraks.

vanillaicedtea · 10/09/2019 16:41

I love it for DD 😊

31RueCambon75001 · 10/09/2019 16:42

The odd thing is nice. Their bags are nice.

Not massively into florals though but their florals are nicer than average florals!!

Greenglassteacup · 10/09/2019 18:53

Dowdy, frumpy and dull.

Idontneeditatall · 10/09/2019 18:58

I find joules really souless and unstylish. However the safeness of it is something that appeals to a lot of people and seemingly youngish mums. Don’t mean that to sound patronising at all but often on here we read threads from new mums who have lost their sense of style due to a change of lifestyle and or figure, and want advice. A joules style uniform of stripy tops and tunics seems to really appeal and help out in that situation because it’s safe and practical

ballroompink · 10/09/2019 19:19

I used to really like Joules about 7-10 years ago but I feel it's now got really samey and so ubiquitous and also the quality isn't as good. It's definitely a uniform for lots of women. I don't dislike their plainer stuff but am not keen on the florals they do now, in the blues/bright pink/orange combinations. I still have two or three things from there that I wear (a jumper; a skirt from about seven years ago; a tweed jacket I got nine years ago) but don't often look in there now.

BarrenFieldofFucks · 10/09/2019 19:25

Same, I used to quite like it about 10 yes ago. Quality was better too.

I don't even like their kids others much now either, some of the girls' stuff is a bit sequinny/pastel and the boys' very dull. Like a poor imitation of Boden or Hatley or similar

coco123456789 · 10/09/2019 19:30

Like a lot of others, I used to like it but now it seems to be for much older women. I think Mary Berry wore it on Bake Off and now it’s a firm fave with the over 70s! I like their kids stuff and homeware though.

Jacksback · 10/09/2019 19:35

I bought a lightweight khaki puffs coat last year and I love it
Couldn’t find what I wanted fir ages ( and dp is used to me being a dither ) he was amazed , tried it on and straight to till
Admitedly I never looked at the other stuff it’s a bit old for me , and I’m mid 50’s

Jacksback · 10/09/2019 19:36

Puffa
Stupid phone

Greenglassteacup · 10/09/2019 19:40

It reminds me of most of the school mums. Navy jeans, converse, breton top, yellow fisherman’s jacket with hood. Boring.

SandraOhshair · 10/09/2019 20:03

I've got a variety of coats and jackets from Joules which have latest really well. I tend to buy the planner items as they last through the seasons.
Gilets are also great. Again the plainer bretons are fantastic quality and I tend to wear more Joules in autumn and winter while dog walking. It's my dog walking uniform.

Trixibell79 · 10/09/2019 20:12

I’ve just ordered a lovely bright red raincoat from there in the sale which I don’t think is dull! I like coats to last a while and would much rather choose something classic than contribute to environmental issues by buying “fashion” coats from places like primark etc every year.
I do agree with pp that it’s got a bit samey over the years with flowers and stripes but the odd thing from there I do still like as a staple. I’ve got a gorgeous navy tweed mini skirt from there 3 years ago which I get compliments on all the time.

ZenNudist · 10/09/2019 20:22

I own lots of joules clothes but have cut back massively as the quality has gone right down.

beatriceprior · 10/09/2019 20:30

I can't get excited about it

imclaustrophobicdarren · 11/09/2019 11:53

@Greenglassteacup 👏

mummyrocks1 · 11/09/2019 12:06

I think it's frumpy for adults mostly but love the kids things and the wellies and accessories for adults

ScrambledSmegs · 11/09/2019 12:11

I've got a few of their things from a while ago that are still going strong but it seems quite samey after a while so haven't bought anything new from them in years. I do need a new raincoat though so might have a look. They look a bit shapeless though and I'm small and easily swamped.

SistersOfMerci · 11/09/2019 12:56

Their skinny jeans are a good cut for me but the quality isn't that great for the price of them.

I have two coats from them, quilted one that's years old and still looks like new. And a down filled one but that's only a year old so I'm not sure how it'll stand the test of time.

I have Breton tops and stripy dresses from years ago that are still fine too.

But if the quality has gone downhill then I won't replace them from there. My newer love for knitwear at a reasonable price is Uniqlo.

mummyrocks1 · 11/09/2019 13:24

I do associate it with the frumpy school mums at my dcs school. I avoid it except for children's things.

MontanaSkies · 11/09/2019 13:37

I bought a short navy rain jacket from there a couple of years ago thinking I'd get loads of wear out of it, but every time I put it on I felt kind of droopy and unstylish. I sold it in the end. However, I have seen other people looking much nicer in it so maybe just me.

I also had my eye on some ankle length wellies for the school run (so sick of destroying all my shoes in the rain). I quite liked them, but then they rebranded them as "Wellibobs". Well sorry I just can't bring myself to wear something with "Wellibobs" on. Envy

Slightly off topic but DH always thinks it's a French brand and he does an OTT pronunciation with the soft "J" but it's really not, is it?

2beautifulbabs · 11/09/2019 14:40

Love joules for children's stuff and I like the hats and socks for adults but it's not my style as an adult for some of the clothes

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 11/09/2019 20:49

It is the new Damart.

hotcrossbun4321 · 11/09/2019 23:12

I have a quilted coat from there which looks fab and is really toasty, but sheds feathers terribly.

I like their heavy jersey breton tops - fab for layering and wearing in transitional weather. I also have some nice blanket scarves from them, and I got a bargain raincoat. I always buy in the sale/with discount and avoid the stuff which is too obvious/patterned
