What do we think if joules? Who buys it?

Oh should also add they get points for being the only shop I know that do proper kids raincoats i.e. made of the rubbery stuff that is impenetrable! I buy dd one every year.

TheRLodger · 08/09/2019 21:29

Also, I it’s the only shop really where both I (20s size 12/14 ) and my dm (60s 8/10) both shop

SemperIdem · 08/09/2019 21:29

It is absolutely lovely for those under 5 years of age.

youllhavehadyourtea · 08/09/2019 21:46

I don't get Joules.

It's sold in our local garden centre next to the Edinburgh Woollen Mill stuff.
I didnt realsise they had shops?

moonpiggle · 08/09/2019 22:16

Great for cutesy kids stuff. I wouldnt wear it.

Ellapaella · 08/09/2019 22:22

It's a certain look. Preppy, countryside style. There are shops in almost every middle class rural county town and in the village where I grew up everyone seems to wear it like a uniform.
I live in a city now and rarely see anyone wearing the 'joules' style. I've had the odd thing from there (one jumper and a summer dress) but it's not somewhere I'd really go looking for clothes. Not my style. Kids clothes are good quality though.

swissmilk · 08/09/2019 22:35

I've got a riding and a dog walking gilet from there. Neither of them shout joules, I got them from John Lewis online because it was easy.
I agree with pp about the image of the typical customer I have in my head...I'm pretty sure I don't fit it though am I deluded?

nevernotstruggling · 08/09/2019 22:39

I have two coats from there and wellies. I buy the kids coats there every two years they are very good quality imo. A lot of the women's wear is not my style but some of it is amazing.
We have bought loads of kids stuff there over the years. It will go through at least 2 kids. Can't complain really.

Atlasta · 08/09/2019 22:44

Urgh.
Wannabe upper middle class but actually working class mums go-to raincoats and wellies that actually wear the person rather than the person wearing them.
I wouldn't.

glenthebattleostrich · 08/09/2019 22:46

Love their wellies for walking the dog, fit well, comfortable and last ages.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 08/09/2019 22:49

Not my cup of tea, but I got some fab cosy socks from there a couple of Christmases ago, and now buy a couple of pairs every winter. It wouldn’t cross my mind to go in if I was looking for actual clothes, same with White Stuff.

CurlyTwirlyTwos · 08/09/2019 22:50

It's the most b.o.r.i.n.g brand on the planet...

I would not be caught dead wearing it until I'm at least 75 - and I'm hoping to be more stylish when I'm that age!

PancakeAndKeith · 08/09/2019 22:52

I get more stuff in Seasalt but I bloody love their Henesford chinos.

I couldn’t give two fuck if people think it’s frumpy.
Is it comfy? Yes.
Do I like it? Yes.

Samosaurus · 08/09/2019 23:32

I really like their coats and knitwear (especially in the sales!), but if you are not into the stripy top or patterned look I’d give everything else a miss! Their kids stuff is great, and I did recently buy some nice tea towels from there:)

ViserionTheDragon · 09/09/2019 00:20

I have a cotton breton top and one of their waterproof parkas - both of which I have worn and washed to death and are still looking good. Very hardy clothes indeed.

evilharpy · 09/09/2019 06:42

It’s not really my style. I do have a padded khaki coloured jacket (similar to the Barbour ones) and a very plain navy and white striped dress that could be from anywhere. I don’t do flowery anything or very bright colours so that rules out a lot of their stuff.

ChickenyChick · 09/09/2019 07:03

It shrinks , i have two flowery dresses that were a bit dowdy but ok, that are now daring fitted very short mini dresses.

I have 1 dress from 10 yrs ago too, that one never shrunk so is still knee length

The quality has gone downhill. Used to be great for kids clothes (maybe still is but my teens would not wear it Grin)

It’s a bit country- mumsy, but I am a mum in the country, so I am fine with that

evilharpy · 09/09/2019 08:12

I actually quite like the kids clothes. My daughter has a few bits including a lovely flower patterned dress in quite a thick jersey. She (at nearly 5) is much girlier and less frightened of print than her mother Grin

Eventrider1 · 09/09/2019 08:34

I like joules but never buy anything full price from them as I think it all costs too much. They have an outlet store on eBay with loads of brand new clothes and I tend to pick all my joules stuff up there for a quarter of the RRP.

itallwentwrongat30 · 09/09/2019 08:49

First MN post! I used to love Joules but I find the quality in general isn't as good now - I got a couple of nice 9to me) shorts from there and they shrunk after the first wash!

I do love their breton tops (stripes - I don't do the florals) as I find them easy to wear and comfortable for day to day wear (and I can just throw a jacket or bodywarmer over to walk the dog/ride)

I have alwasy loved their wellies and found them to be comfortable and long wearing for on the farm, dog walking, at the yard etc but the majority of people seem to have negative experiences of the quality.

I still cannot pass a Joules shop without nipping on for a look though!

TeaAddict235 · 09/09/2019 13:11

I really like their fleeces and half neck / collar hoodies. I find them really comfortable and warm. They do suit more rural living in terms of their practicality, however a Nigerian-British lady I know wears their clothes in Frankfurt and she makes the clothes look amazing (Instagram follower I am!). I didn't ever think that the clothes could look cool or corporate work ready before I met her. Damn!

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 09/09/2019 14:52

I love their sweatshirts and have had some for 8 years that are still going strong. I've got 2 pairs of wellies on the go. I agree the newer stuff is not as good quality as it once was.

imclaustrophobicdarren · 09/09/2019 15:09

It is really shite, boring and for the frumpy mums who cba. Harsh but likely very true.

hammeringinmyhead · 09/09/2019 15:38

I think it depends on which items. Their stuff is quite boxy so I look far better in it now at a size 10 than I did at a size 14 a couple of years ago. I only buy their non-flowery Harbour tops and I have 3 - navy, pale blue and mustard. I also have the yellow coat! Although mine is spotty lined rather than navy stripes.

I went to a baby class today in a posh SW market town, and I've never seen so much Joules in one room so I guess that's one of the markets - 30s middle class mums who want something that lasts but don't want to buy stuff from more expensive brands when spending the day on the floor with a toddler. I reckon a lot of them got theirs in the Clarks Village outlet though like I do!

I actually think you can get the same look in Tu at Sainsbury's these days. I'm sure they have a stripey floral ripoff.
