Pencil skirts

I love pencil skirts, they really suit my figure, but not sure what to wear on my feet. I wear opaque tights in the winter. What would look good? Trainers, ankle boots, knee highs?

A heeled knee high or heeled ankle boot can look nice. Ballet flats make legs look stumpy so I wear flats into work and then change into heels when I get there.

Ninkaninus · 08/09/2019 12:34

I wear what I fancy on the day.

Ankle boots
Brogues
Heeled brogues
Courts
Over the knee boots

And probably a few more that I’ve forgotten now

Thanks both - I know what you mean thethoughtfox about ballet flats equalling stumpy legs, I'm the same.

It depends. Jersey skirts with a bit of stretch then I wear a chunky casual Chelsea boot or loafer. If it is tailored then a pointed flat or smarter boot.

I think knee high boots look really bad with pencil skirts but that might just be me. I think they can work with ankle boots though

Chunky platform heels work well with pencil skirts, for me anyway.

I like this look, but couldn't do the bare legs. Brr! Plus I am quite old and so legs are a bit veiny!

I don't think pencil skirts and knee high boots work very well. I like them with bare legs and trainers, fishnets and trainers, opaques and heeled ankle boots. They can work with brogues too or a block heeled shoe, but need to try on and see.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 08/09/2019 15:46

The look in the pic would work really well with fishnets.

NC4Now · 08/09/2019 15:48

Depends where you’re going. I love a pencil skirt too.
Sometimes I wear block heeled ankle boots, sometimes Doc Martens, for work I’ll wear Mary Janes with a 3 inch heel.
I can’t pull off trainers with a pencil skirt but it works for some people.
I think knee boots are a bit dated, but other than that anything goes.

thehauntedpencil · 08/09/2019 16:15

Yes, I think you are right about the knee boots.

I love the idea of fishnets but think I may be a wee bit on the old side for that (56).

Definitely not too old! Go for nude ones, if you're worried about the black ones being a bit risky!

thehauntedpencil · 08/09/2019 16:39

I might try the nude ones! I love black fishnets, but not sure I have the confidence for them these days.

Thanks all, I am trying to look for ways to update myself a little as have got very stuck into a jeans and t-shirt rut (I work from home now so no need for work clothes) and am feeling a little frumpy. I don't really miss working in an office, but I do miss getting a bit dressed up for work.

I work from home mostly too. You do lose yourself a bit.
I know some really cool women in their 50s though. I’m in my 40s and when we were young they were the girls a bit older than me who were into punk, Northern Soul, new romantic etc. You are definitely not old.
Your age group is quite liberated. Wear what you love, and don’t give your age a second thought.
