I love a cocoon coat, had one from next last year which I threw out at the end of winter as it went bobbly. Looking hard for another as it’s such a great shape but not seen anything good so far..

NiteFlights · 07/09/2019 08:30

Honestly, I would buy it if there’s any conceivable way you can. It’s 70% wool, stylish and (provided the shape suits you) fairly classic. It will look equally good dressed up or down. You’ll get tons of wear out of it and it’ll lift every winter outfit.

I had a Cos coat that lasted about six winters of daily wear and I always got compliments on it. A good coat is worth its weight in gold. You could easily spend £100 on something that’s bad quality and not even warm.

Another option is to start checking eBay for similar ones, you may come up with a bargain - and charity shops can be good too, but it’s time consuming.

Gah I think I know you’re right.....

Do Cos do discounts?

That is a beautiful coat OP.

I am also going to be terribly unhelpful and wonder if you pinched pennies like mad now you could have for winter.

@NiteFlights is right-sometimes cheaper is a false economy.

But if you want to have a look at Zara there coats are often less expensive and some lovely styles.

Youngandfree · 07/09/2019 08:45

I’m with Niteflights, you could buy two crap coats for that price and be kicking yourself.if you can afford it and you can look at it as a staple piece/investment then go for it!

poptypingchef · 07/09/2019 08:58

Do you have the Mallzee app, it’s brilliant but dangerous for this sort of thing.

You can pop in what type of clothing you are looking for, colours, price limit etc. You swipe a bit like tinder (with less ghosting) and it saves the ones you like into a feed for you to look at

I’ve ended up buying clothes from shops I’d never go into and getting some brilliant stuff.

poptypingchef · 07/09/2019 08:59

Oh and it lets you know when things drop in price so you could always keep an eye on the cos coat in case it goes on the sale.

championquartz · 07/09/2019 09:03

While I love the occasional Zara fling, IMO coats and shoes are always worth spending on.

It’s £200. Realistically, winter is at least 7 months of coat wearing. Multiply that by a couple of years - I’m sure that coat will do you at least a couple of years. Your cost per wear is negligible. Most cheaper coats have a higher cost per wear, the fabric wears badly, they bobble, cut is poor etc.

I agree with pps - cobble together your coins and try and buy the Cos coat.

Buy once buy right. (Yes I am my mother)

sheshootssheimplores · 07/09/2019 09:06

That’s a beautiful coat.

Miseryisabutterfly · 07/09/2019 09:16

Oh! It’s beautiful, and actually a decent price for what it is. I wish I hadn’t seen this thread!

Miseryisabutterfly · 07/09/2019 09:18

The website says 10% off your first order? Not a huge dent, but every little and all that.

halfgirlhalfturnip · 07/09/2019 09:39

It's beautiful but I think the shorter sleeves would annoy me.

lightningstrikes · 07/09/2019 09:50

You can use Klarna to purchase on Cos to delay or spread the cost (enabling). You can always send it back if it doesn't suit.

Elllllle · 07/09/2019 10:01

I want this coat now! I have tried on similar in Cos however and it was Enormous

MakeMineALarge1 · 07/09/2019 10:10

I think the sleeves would annoy the hell out of me.

Yes its a beautiful coat and you will get years out of it, but, I did this one year with a coat, and I must admit after 4 bloody winters out of it, I couldn't stand the sight of it.

ChippingInLowCarbing · 07/09/2019 11:28

Conversely I’d LOVE the sleeves, as they might actually fit me instead of needing taking up (or realistically folded over!🤣)

Do you commute to work by public transport? If you do then it’s absolutely worth every penny. I’m sure you could afford it if you stopped feeding the children! ( or getting a very early Christmas present from DH/parents etc.)

lotsofthingstolearn · 07/09/2019 11:35

Oh heck, you lot are like the naughty elf on my shoulder, I was hoping for some angels to miraculously find something.......I’m useless at online shopping so was hoping I’ve missed some hip cool and trendy shops I’ve never heard about.......as I’ve been in +size for v long time all of a sudden I’m like a child in a sweet shop now I can buy normal clothes...

lotsofthingstolearn · 07/09/2019 11:36

*hovers over the buy button🙈

Debenhams have some really lovely coats in at the moment.

However I bought a new winter coat last year and ended up spending £180 because I wanted a coat that would last many years rather than a cheaper one that would fall apart quicker.

MandalaYogaTapestry · 07/09/2019 11:51

Buy it, buy it, buy it! 😀

hopeishere · 07/09/2019 11:51

Do it!!! Click on checkout!!

NoBaggyPants · 07/09/2019 12:02

Seasalt have one similar but it's still £150 so I'd go with the Cos one.
