Putting my summer clothes away today.

I have piles of clothes all over my bedroom. Children's summer clothes that are outgrown, another pile for not outgrown. My clothes that are very summery eg shorts, beach stuff. A pile of less summery things but still summery eg light trousers, short sleeve tops. Swimwear. Cropped trousers and jeans. Skirts that can be worn with tights, proper summery skirts etc.

The winter stuff is still in the loft and I need to swap them over... I'm thinking I need a system to cope with the chaos! Trying to cull a bit as I go along. Any tips please?

You sound just like me. Plus I have summer stuff I just never got around to ebaying. Dd2 has ejected some of my clothes from her wardrobe as she has a serious Depop habit. And my kids dump their bin bnags of unwanted clothes in my bedroom. The thing is I used to donate it all. But I now know I can make money ebaying it, so I feel guilty if I dont. So then it just sits there in a pile....... looking at me balefully.🤦
I've bought several storage boxes from Dunelm in the hope of sorting it all this weekend.

Ah can't decide if it's the time to do it yet! May just seperate it out for the time being.

So that's why it is raining now!

Ooh don't put your summer stuff away yet (depending on where you live) - we have a "mini heatwave" forecast for next week! On the South Coast.

I am ffffreezing today though, and am actually wearing tweed.

Maybe get rid of the pile of outgrown children's clothes and see if you can live with the other piles for another couple of weeks until summer is really properly over? If you children are school-aged, you can also put away most of their summer gear as they will only need a couple of t-shirts and shorts etc for weekends in September ..

I tend to take next season stuff out quite early on, because I've got a poor memory and I don't want to buy something similar to something I've already got. It's at that point that I weed out the clothes that I haven't worn the previous year - if I'm really organised I've stored them separately. This means I've got them ready to sell at the time of year when someone might buy them (or send to the charity shop at a point when someone might want them)! I then pack up all the previous season clothes, and split out any that I might want to sell in another 6 months time. I keep out anything which I might want to wear over the next month or so, and then do a second pack-away later on. I'm trying to have less clothes, so editing out those I don't wear is as important as not buying unnecessary ones.

I did exactly this yesterday!!

I guess it's about easy access storage for stuff that's suitable for late summer if you're planning to get out the winter clothes? I've a similar approach to MaudesMum in that I need to know what winter clothes I've got and they sometimes get damp in storage and need a wash and/or airing!

Put all the clothes in a pile I haven't worn this summer in a bag for charity. I also pulled out all the clothes I felt 'meh' about when I got them out of the winter stuff bag. I'm going to store them in a bin bags for a few months until I see whether I need them or indeed if I can afford to buy any new clothes this season Hmm

The outgrown kids summer stuff I'll either be keeping for next year and Ebaying or giving away to friends.

It's lovely getting rid of stuff!

Oh god me too today - I started at 12 noon and had to abandon at 3 for school run - my bedroom is complete chaos and now I'm scared to go upstairs!! I clearly am not in a position to offer you any advice!!!! Plus I haven't done my usual hoover/dust that I do on a Friday ready for weekend and nos I have to make dinner. Feeling very overwhelmed tbh.

I done the same today, doing a car boot sale, and sorted clothing for ebay

Bluewavescrashing · 06/09/2019 19:26

I'm always cold! I have kept a few summer bits out in case if heatwave though, that seems a good idea.

I'm in the middle of sorting out and I've found several bits for Winter I've forgotten about . Navy me & em culottes and two pairs of Jigsaw crushed velvet culottes . Plus two Wrap Cashmere jumpers - all bought in the sales some time ago. My wardrobe is lovely and empty and i can see everything in it. I have got a few summer bits out for a long weekend in Majorca but it's pretty cold here in our rural county.
