Hair Dye for Ginger to cover grey

articginger · 04/09/2019 12:21

Can anybody recommend a hair dye for natural ginger hair? I have started to get grey coming through and just want something to cover it up without spending loads of money at the salon. I have tried a few colours none of which I like, my latest was Schwarzkopf vital care colour cream in Mahogany but it is too dark. I want to keep to my natural colour ginger but it is so hard to find something natural for gingers.

Hi @articginger,

(And a warm welcome to Mumsnet!) Brew

I have brown hair, not ginger, but I use the Clairol Nice n Easy root touch-up, which is dead easy to use and only takes ten minutes. They have a copper/auburn red shade which may be right for you?

Hopefully some Mumsnetters with actual ginger hair will be along shortly with some other suggestions. Smile In the meantime, we're going to move this thread over to our Style & Beauty topic.

Henna ? Too red?

I have natural red hair, I use a mix of cassia and henna to make a strawberry blonde shade, it looks like highlights. I don't want the commitment of root touch ups every four to six weeks and this works well for me.

I'm a dark brunette and use henna. It's much less of a faff than box dye.

I have natural auburn hair and i use Nice and Easy Medium dark auburn, they do a light auburn as well. It doesnt have a string smell and the colour looks natural

I haven't tried henna before and don't know much about it, do you have to mix it yourself from powder? Thanks for all your suggestions, I will try anything!

Yes I mix 75% cassia to 25% henna. You have to work out what shade works for you.
