Hats

I really like hats like fedoras and trilbys but how do you keep them on when it's windy? I bought I straw one this summer but have hardly worn it because when it's breezy I'm afraid I'm going to end up chasing it down the street. Can anyone help please?

Get a nice vintage hat pin, eBay would be a good hunting ground.

Can you explain a hat pin, please, RatWife? If I jab it through the hat and into my skull, don't I risk brain damage, or at least a bad headache?

You could tie a silk headscarf around your head and knot under your chin and then use a hat pin to secure the hat to the scarf.

Or sew on elastic to go under your chin.

A hat pin goes through the hat, under some of your hair and back out of the hat again. No skull contact needed (hopefully!)

A straw hat that fits the head properly shouldn’t fly off except on exceptional wind. I wear one a lot on the summer and don’t have this problem
