Any apples want to share their recent purchases?

I carry all my weight around my tummy and look like I’m about 6 months pregnant so always struggle with clothes which are flattering for me.

I’m currently on the hunt for some new clothes so I was wondering if anyone with similar shape wants to share their recent purchases?

Signing in. Thanks for starting this thread, OP.

I find it really fucking hard to dress my shape. I put on things that I think look alright-ish, then I see a picture and I just look like a hippo.

My legs are amazing (not even a stealth boast, I get compliments on them all the time Grin) so I'm enjoying wearing shorts at the moment but my tummy and arse and shoulders are just another story. I've got no idea what to wear on top. I can't wear fitted stuff because of the obvious apple tummy issues and anything loose or oversized makes me look like an egg on legs.

I bought some good basic t shirts from H&M but they shrunk in the washHmm. I do like my Hush wide jersey tops (I have black and grey). I really need some more good staple basics.

Sorry for the ramble. Hoping there will be some apple inspo on this thread.

I just bought Next tailored slim trousers in charcoal, already had black and navy, even with a simple tshirt I look great (size 16)

I've just bought this dress which skims over the tum, seams give illusion of a shape, and length shows off legs.

GoneToTheDock · 01/09/2019 22:05

Got a link @Redannie118?

Coast dresses can look good. Arket tunics, especially the silk ones. Boden do nice linen tunics too for summer and they are great over linen trousers.

The waisted dress above would be impossible for me!

BubblesBuddy · 02/09/2019 08:19

Not Coast!!! Toast. Better cut for us apples.

Adollop · 02/09/2019 09:28

Love that Amazon dress!

elasti · 02/09/2019 13:31

Any jeans or casual tops? I'm not a dress person.

I tried some boyfriend jeans from H&M recently. Dear god. I can never unsee that reflection in the mirror.

64sNewName · 02/09/2019 13:36

I really would love some jeans that look decent and don’t cut in to my stomach, but it’s bloody difficult as an apple. I end up wearing leggings all the time. I work from home so it’s not the end of the world, but it’s so, so boring.

Had high hopes for a pair from Toast recently, but they were tight at the waist and massive everywhere else. Back they went.

64sNewName · 02/09/2019 13:37

I can’t see how that Amazon dress would flatter an apple shape at all! It’s the kind of shape I wore when I was more hourglass, pre-children. I know all too well it’s completely unsuitable now.

elasti · 02/09/2019 13:49

@64sNewName Jeans are so hard aren't they. I have some Topshop Joni's but they are Hush waisted so emphasise my spare tyre like nothing you've seen before. The only jeans I really get on with are River Island Molly.

elasti · 02/09/2019 13:54

Hush waisted?? HIGH waisted.

WellTidy · 02/09/2019 13:56

I'm an apple, and I bought quite a few of [www.whitestuff.com/womens/knitwear/dusty-blue-plain-florence-jumper/ this White Stuff jumper]] this summer. They have it in other colours for winter. It isn't as nice as this other White Stuff jumper though, which is super flattering.

WellTidy · 02/09/2019 13:56

sorry for the messy links - they do work

WellTidy · 02/09/2019 13:58

this white stuff shirt is also flattering

WellTidy · 02/09/2019 13:59

this white stuff top too - the print isn't to my taste, but the shape is great

GreyHare · 02/09/2019 16:01

@WllTidy Has White Stuff improved the arm fit on their tops as it used to be so small and ridiculous tight as they didn't seem to scale the arms up from a size 8 blouse so as a size 16 with bingo wings I struggled to get their tops on?

I have just brought 2 of these www.freemans.com/products/checked-longline-blouse/_/A-911232_8?PFM_rsn=browse&PFM_ref=true&PFM_psp=own&PFM_pge=1&PFM_lpn=3 as I think they look good over cropped not quite skinny jeans as I can't wear anything tight or clingy or that attempts to give me a waist as I don't have one.

I also have several of these tops [[https://www.next.co.uk/G2346s10?dp=a&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=CjwKCAjw-7LrBRB6EiwAhh1yXwSpbz7T8GeGBNdeuuAh2gsMO1lrV_VhJTaZbu6Uq01kM9zXf6tavRoCxNsQAvD_BwE#918791]] in black or cream as they are easy to pop on and I wear either a kimono top if warm or jacket/cardi if cool and again they skim the belly and are quite forgiving, I wear them with skinny jeans or cropped chino/combat trousers.

I'm not hugely fashionable as you can tell by my above selection but I don't think I look that horrendous either.

WellTidy · 02/09/2019 16:07

Grey I find their arms to be fine, but if you're concerned, read through teh reviews. I find them to be invaluable. I am a short arse (5 foot 1) and always have a look for a review by a fellow shortie before buying. People often write their reviews in great detail! I find White Stuff good because they put the length measurement for tops, dresses and skirts on their website. I don't buy jumpers or cardigans that are longer than 61cm, for example, as I know they would be too long.

thisonebreath · 02/09/2019 20:21

Kidsform Women's Oversized Dress... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B076H45L1H?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I've just bought this, fairly fine knit and very comfy.

Lucked · 02/09/2019 20:53

For work I have bought another Boden Carey top as the length is good for me - I am tall and tops can seem short. For work trousers I tend to go on the M&S website and search for ponte as they tend to have a two way stretch and stay up.

Also M&S £19.50 shift dresses like this. Sizing isn’t always consistent so I order a couple of sizes to try on but they can be very flattering and are smart enough for work. I am going to order this one to see but the reviews of the material aren’t great so I shall have to try it on.

WellTidy · 02/09/2019 21:26

He Boden Carey top is very similar to their Ravello top that they did for years. A staple for an apple. I have to shorten it as I am so short and they don’t make it in a petite fit, but it is easy to do that and still retain the shape. I think it looks lots better tucked in, but the tucked in (even a french tuck) look isn’t for me right now.

Jaffacakebeast · 02/09/2019 21:32

High waisted skinny jeans for me, or maternity jeans in a size smaller, Dorothy Perkins are good. Just for comfort really, so they don’t dig in on my belly or be baggy on my arse, waist is a size bigger than everywhere else
