Facial cleansing bars.

I want to try and reduce my plastic use and as my regular cleanser is running out I want to try a facial cleansing bar (not a soap!). So far I’ve found Drunk Elephant Juju Bar (£24!), Clinique (that I tried 20+ years ago and hated) Sebamed and that’s about it. Can anybody recommend one that is reasonably priced, doesn’t leave a film (like soap or Shea butter does) and actually works?

Following with interest. Dove sensitive bar worked for me on a holidays (used it for everything) but I am back to using my usually la Roche cleanser as it feels nicer.

I’ve tried Dove and it left a film feeling on my face.

African black soap gets a good write up. Korres soap is nice on your face. Alpha H do a cleansing cube which is also supposed to be good. None of these is anywhere near the price of the Drunk Elephant one; £24 for a bar of nice soap is ridiculous!

TBS cammomile balm is in a tin rather than a plastic bottle.

I use locitaine verbena soap or the milk one and both are amazing. They cost around £9 a bar but last forever. I used to use Lancome facial wash and espa face wash and both made my skin feel tight after, I couldn't wait to get moisturiser on. Since using the soap I've never had that feeling. I have very sensitive skin too.

Following- am using Pears. Actually it feels ok but it can’t be good- right?!

Lush have lots of facial cleansing soaps. They have a whole load of stuff to reduce your plastic waste

I love the Lush cleansing bars. The tea tree one cleared up an eczema flare up and I really like the baby bar before bed.

thisenglishlife · 01/09/2019 10:28

The Lush cleansing bars - but it has to be removed with a wet flannel.

They also have a good paste one called aqua marina. I think it's in a pot but if you bring it back they recycle it and turn it into a new pot. It's free from butters and oils too!

Korres pomegranate facial soap for oily skin is quite nice, they also do a chamomile and almond one for sensitive/dry skin, but I have not tried that.

BelindasGleeTeam · 01/09/2019 11:07

MooGoo cleansing bars are lovely. The goats milk one is my second step after oil cleansing and skin isn't dried out at all.

I’ve just ordered Aleppo as saw a recommendation for clear skin on here as well as online reviews all over the internet.

I was looking at trying the Cerave hydrating cleansing bar...tried the dove beauty bar but did not like so am a little deterred...

GwenCooper81 · 01/09/2019 13:09

I use method charcoal cleansing bar. It lasts forever, it's about 6 quid and my skin has never looked better. I've always got it from Boots. It's a little drying but I have sensitive skin anyway.

GwenCooper81 · 01/09/2019 13:11

I lied.. Its called Carbon Therapy cleansing bar. Method is apparently my floor cleaner 😂

Laquila · 01/09/2019 13:19

For my body, I use an olive oil soap called Oliva that I get from our local health food shop, and it’s been fine when I’ve used it on my face. A tiny bit frying but not irritating on my sensitive skin.

I tried the Avene cold cream bar, as I love their very gentle cleanser, but it was very perfumed (someone on here warned me but I didn’t listen!).

I used to use Morrocan black soap on my body and it was amazing. Is that the same as African black soap?

I use Lamazuna (from Babipur) and it's working great for me - swapped to it from my trusty Liz Earle and my skin has stayed looking clear and soft.

NorthernGravy · 03/09/2019 11:18

I ended up walking past Lush and buying their Coal Face Cleansing Bar. Will report back later. Thanks for your recs.
