First time wax

So basically. I have 4 children and have always shaved down below. But now I'm thinking it's time I grow up a bit and go for a wax!! I've booked in for Tuesday at 12.30. I'm actually sh**ing it now though 😂 I've had tattoos and birthed 4 children in little to no pain relief (ie gas and air for 2 and nothing for the other 2) the tattoo on my wrist reduced me to tears. Am I being a wuss?? Does it actually really hurt? Someone explain in simple terms to me wtf is going to happen please!? Don't let me talk myself out of it. And I want all the details!!

Thanks in advance

It stings a bit but doesn't hurt. You do have to get into some interesting positions to allow access to the hair but just remember that they've seen it all before. My waxer is very good at making me feel comfortable.

I was half expecting someone to come out and say it's hurts loads!! Do I just be that kind of woman that admits it's her first time and hope they go gentle with me?? I don't mind a bit of uncomfortable pain but actual pain I will cry! Just checked and the appointment is for 15mins. So they're quite quick at what they do?

Sorry for all the question marks lol

I am a beauty therapist. Make sure that you only have hot wax not strip. The hairs must be long enough if you hsve shaved as they won’t all come out properly or the wax won’t grip.
Try & find a salon that uses Lycon Pinkini & Lycon Desert Rose Wax. A pre wax oil is used under the wax and the wax grips the hair & not the skin. It is a lot less painful if a good wax is used & definitely hot wax only for that area.
Do not have a Wax if you are due your period as your pain threshold is lower.

What is the difference between hot wax and strip?

Mine puts was on with a spatula and removes it with a strip of cloth. Is that a hot wax?

MagicKingdom · 30/08/2019 15:24

That's strip wax. Hot wax is applied with a spatula but it 'sets' and is then removed without a wax strip. As the wax is left on the skin for up to a minute, the heat opens the pores and hair follicles allowing the hair to wax out much more easily. This should make it less painful. It also has a stronger grip on the hairs, so better for shorter hair.

I've taken your advice diamond and have rebooked. I just booked for a standard bikini wax. Had a nose through their website and they do Lycon waxing. But more expensive but from what I read it looked a lot more appealing. They also had a video of Lycon armpit waxing and that woman did not flinch at all Grin

Is it true that the hair doesn't have to be as long as it does with normal wax??

Their wax is meant for hair that is shorter. The Lycon Pinkini & Desert Rose does grab shorter hair. If shaved you will have different hair growths. You are best to have a wax then another one 2 weeks later to tidy up the stray short hairs that might not grab the first time. Then 4 weeks regular wax after is recommended as much easier to do s maintenance after 4 weeks.

You will be fine, just make sure you have enough growth as you will get a better result. Lycon waxing is brilliant, is a bit ‘ouch’ in certain areas but the pain doesn’t linger and is over in seconds. Definitely try to go to a salon who specialises in intimate waxing as they are the best, the first one I had was done by a trainee and she was really slow, over an hour for a Brazilian! Good luck!

I had my first ever Hollywood two weeks ago it was actually less painful than I expected like you I was shitting myself I’d never waxed down there before either.. I went for hot wax on the advice of many ppl strip wax is a major no no ! Unfortunately the therapist left a bit of hair behind so I had to complain and go back the second therapist was great though and got every single hair . I took two ibuprofen 30/45 mins before hand on the advice of others.

Some parts hurt more then others mainly the lips and the bit in between the bum and vag but if your just having a normal bikini wax you won’t experience that I went straight in at the deep ends lol.

It’s not pleasant but I didn’t find i unbearable yes I does sting and take your breath away in certain areas.. but I’ve got my next one booked in 3 weeks and I’m no going back to shaving. It’s been two and a half weeks and it’s only just started growing back and was so smooth the first two weeks I was impressed
