Jeans for a uni interview?

I have an interview on Thursday for an NHS based course. Was thinking of blue skinny jeans, smart shirt and navy blazer with black patent loafers - will that do??? I don't know if I'll have time to go to the shops before then (been very busy with work)

No. You need to wear trousers or a skirt, or at the very least black jeans.

Wear something smart that will make you stand out a little, show a little personality!

I’d say jeans are fine if wearing blazer and blouse x

  • may be coincidence but when I was interviewed - I wore a navy trouser suit for 2 interviews, and a simple black dress but a bold/striking blazer for the other 3.

I was offered places at all 3 I’d worn the bold blazer, but not the 2 wearing the suit.

Your outfit sounds fine.

DollyDaisyMayMight · 27/08/2019 20:11

Good luck!

What course is it exactly? At med school interviews (a while ago now) everyone was wearing business casual.

slavetolife · 27/08/2019 20:13

It's for an ODP course!

Sounds good. I've interviewed lots of PhD students and this is pretty much the PhD interview uniform.

Good luck!!

Byorderofthepeakyblinders · 27/08/2019 20:13

I think it's too casual, sorry

lucylu22 · 27/08/2019 20:14

As someone who has also done an NHS based uni interview I'd advise against blue jeans. Personally I wore black jeans as did a few others as well as smart pants and trousers.

slavetolife · 27/08/2019 20:14

The shirt is reasonably striking, fairly wide medium blue and white striped that looks great with the blazer

@slavetolife sounds perfect - mine was also stripes!

pinksquash13 · 27/08/2019 20:19

I'd say no to blue Jeans

Smidge001 · 27/08/2019 20:21

No to blue jeans.

fluffyjumper · 27/08/2019 20:22

No to jeans

HippyChickMama · 27/08/2019 20:22

I'm a nursing lecturer and I interview potential students. Most candidates wear slightly less casual outfits than that and many interviewers would frown upon jeans. I'm quite laid back when it comes to what people wear in general but I think wearing jeans to an interview conveys a lack of effort, trousers would be better.

slavetolife · 27/08/2019 20:24

Thanks very much for the responses - I shall have to find time to go and get some trousers tomorrow!

I'm assuming the jeans are unfaded dark wash. They'd go well with the smart upper half and shoes. Black skinnies were my DDs uni interview 'uniform' (with a less smart shirt and jumper but less 'professional' course, I suppose. But not sure black would go with what the op has described.
