I'm invited to a party in October, and need some style inspiration please. It's a house party to celebrate a birthday and my friends are always casually stylish.
I always feel a bit 'mumsy ' next to them, but I also don't want to be too mutton dressed as lamb.
I'm 5'4 tall, a size 14/16. I don't like my arms, but have decent legs. I have biggish boobs and something of a tummy 😬
I suit v necks and shirt dresses, and I like Hush, Zara, Next and M and S, I think I pick my clothes well from the high street but I'm just looking for a bit of inspiration! Thank you in advance for any ideas.

You have plenty of time to look round for something you look and feel good in.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/08/2019 15:35

What colours do you like?

Hoppinggreen · 24/08/2019 15:36

Do you like the Hush Kensington dress? I have one and I love it, wear it with trainers or boots

marigoldsmarigolds · 24/08/2019 16:26

Thank you I'll have a look at Kensington. I mostly wear black or grey - and maybe that's what I'm trying to get away from! Having plenty of time doesn't help me. Maybe I will go and try a personal shopper. Thanks anyway.

In the spring I bought a size L shirt dress from Zara. It's really smart, grey snake print, above the knee with long sleeves & in nice soft material. It looks good with black opaques & my block heeled ankle boots.

That dress won't be available now but there will be similar things in Zara & I think that's the kind of thing that you need for the party - smart but not too smart, feminine & stylish.

I would also look at River Island especially online. They have some really nice dresses that you can dress up or down.

Be careful with Next & M&S you don't want to be lamb dressed as mutton either.

My ankle boots came from Clarks but you can buy block heeled ankle boots everywhere. They give dresses an edge.

How old are you? Sorry I find it really difficult unless I know how old u are

marigoldsmarigolds · 24/08/2019 18:02

Thanks Tiera.
Jesse I am 50 but youthful! And yes I know what you mean about M &S and Next - I am very careful and only pick the odd thing.

Have a look at Massimo Dutti - it's Zara but made in better fabrics. Lots of shirt dresses at the moment.

Palaver1 · 24/08/2019 19:55

Massimo Duttirather expensive though

marigoldsmarigolds · 24/08/2019 21:47

Viviene I like the look of Massimo Dutti.
Thanks all for your suggestions - I'm going to break out of my mould and try some new ideas.
