Primark - what do I need?

I'm off to the big Primark tomorrow and wondering if there is anything I should be looking out for?!

Promotion, promotion, promotion. Hate these threads.

Monty27 · 22/08/2019 06:07

It's your own ethics that matter. Much stuff from Primark lasts as long if not longer than any high st retailer eg next and Topshop
At a fraction of the price. Buy stuff that aren't just 'disposable clothing'

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 22/08/2019 06:19

I think their make-up and perfume are excellent.

Monty27 · 22/08/2019 06:29
  • stuff Buy things I should say. I bought their foundation. It's very good. (I can't afford the brands any more) Tights excellent. Underwear as good/bad as m&s I've got t-shirts and tops etc there that have lasted for years unlike other brands. You have to have a good eye though. Don't be snobby about it. Hobbs for example ain't all that at times. Confused

boy shorts

and face wipes

Legomadx2 · 22/08/2019 06:46

Lol at PP who wrote 'the exit'

I loathe Primark and if I ever stupidly venture in there, always find myself racing for the exit in a panic.

Dreadful place, dreadful clothes. I know it's cheap though.

AreWeAnywhereNear · 22/08/2019 06:55

Pjs - mine have lasted years, I might treat myself to a new pair when I'm next in
Opaque tights - absolutely fabulous and rarely snag
Sportswear - I have to drop lucky with this, sometimes there's loads other times it's a pile if shite
Vest tops - perfect for layering on a cold day
Hoodies - brilliant value and perfect to have just to chuck on
Hair grips and slides - fabulous value, you can never have enough
Ages ago I got two pairs (use one & spare one) of exfoliating gloves for £1, it literally was years ago I use them everyday in the shower and they've made a massive difference to my skin.

I've not been in for ages but am feeling I need a fix.

Ligresa · 22/08/2019 06:56

Pj bottoms
The grey checked knee length coat.

Those commenting on primark using slave labour I watched a documentary this week filmed via two under cover workers and primark was definitely NOT the only brand being made there.

Anyone who believes the bigger names use sustainable materials all the time and don't use sweat shops are not doing their research.

Anyone noticed the quality of supposedly top quality brands not anywhere as good as it used to be?

Google it

mindproject · 22/08/2019 08:05

Save your money and buy from a company that doesn't exploit poor workers in poor countries.

You'd be hard pushed to find one.

mindproject · 22/08/2019 08:12

And people talk about cheap clothes not being sustainable. Some of my Primark clothes are 15 years old and still going strong. I don't buy many clothes, I don't really have a budget for clothes, but a few bits from Primark once or twice a year doesn't break the bank. I make them last and everything gets worn hundreds of times. It's not throwaway fashion if you don't have much money. I never throw any clothes out, I take them to charity shops when they don't fit or repurpose them when they are worn out

I think some people believe cheap = bad quality, expensive = good quality. You are being scammed. There are plenty of shops where the price is high and the quality is worse than Primark.

Starlight456 · 22/08/2019 08:29

I agree @mindprosject . It was last year it came out the same company make school uniform for m&s and Aldi.

People with money can afford more principals. So many people using food banks . I doubt they will be using primark as disposable .

Don’t shop at Primark if you don’t want to but not sure why anyone else feels the need to tell anyone else where to shop.

IhaveALooBrush · 22/08/2019 08:32

Don’t the clothes in topshop and various other places that people are less snooty about come from the same factories?

Yup.
I don't think you can say that you avoid primark due to sweatshops, and then shop anywhere with a clear conscience on the high street.

I've just bought two long soft cardigans in primark. I buy my summer espadrilles from there every year.
Knickers last for a long time
Basic t shirts
Shorts
Belts, my leather ones are about 10 years old.

RedForShort · 22/08/2019 08:45

mindproject i think it's less about the clothes being sustainable, and more about consumers buying and chucking items (because they are cheap). Onus being on the consumer.

As Starlight456 said, easg to have principles if you have money. However the I-wouldnt-shop-in-primarkers on this thread aren't displaying virtues, just snobbery. Primark is cheap, and therefore attracts people with less money. The hoi polloi. This makes it a bad place and excused by false fact it uses slave labour. Unlike whatever they wear one presumes!!

But maybe they afford the same principals everywhere. I guess they don't have a Mulberry bag, or buy shoes in Clarks for their children. (I could go on, but there's a lot of shops with a poorer labour rating than primark.)

Atlasta · 22/08/2019 08:52

PJs definitely.

thesunwillout · 22/08/2019 09:03

Tictacs

poolblack · 22/08/2019 09:16

Why are people on MN so sniffy about Primark?

Because it's shit 🤷‍♀️

Greenglassteacup · 22/08/2019 09:20

Most of the high street clothes are shit quality though and are made in the same factories as primark.

Fridakahlofan · 22/08/2019 09:20

Nothing. Be kind to the environment and have fun checking out the charity shops!

poolblack · 22/08/2019 09:22

@Greenglassteacup

Don't get your point. Other shops being shit doesn't make Primark any less shit.

Greenglassteacup · 22/08/2019 09:25

My point is that people shopping at rope shop etc are snooty about primary. Same crap quality clothes produced in the same place. Not that hard to get your head around

Greenglassteacup · 22/08/2019 09:26

Primary = primark

Greenglassteacup · 22/08/2019 09:26

Fucks sake. Rope shop= topshop

timeforawine · 22/08/2019 09:27

I like their perfume and the false lashes are surprisingly good, i got the cluster ones and they stayed in a whole wedding and reception which for £1 i hadn't expected
