I find Boots curl cream gives me great definition. I also like the TIGI one which gives a bit more definition but doesn’t feel as soft.

I use the Boots curl mousse too but not sure that does much so have stopped using it. The Macademia curl cream doesn’t do much for me either, not do frizz wade serums.

I like TIGI after party for shine.

I’m open to recommendations of other curl creams but really I’d be interested in views on mousse (is it even necessary?) and something to give my hair shine.

I use the macademia shampoo and conditioner (sulphate free) usually but have recently bought L’Oreal Elvive extraordinary oil shampoo and conditioner and I liked it but realise it isn’t sulphate free.

I'd be interested in ideas too. I've been using mousse and gel - Schwarzkopf mousse with strong hold. I haven't tried curl cream, but I do find I get more volume if I use the mousse. Any that I've tried that weren't extra strong hold have been not much use though.

I was wondering about the Tigi Foxy Curls. Also can I ask you what kind of curls you have? I've been wondering about trying the After Party at the end to tame some of the frizz (I used to use it on straight hair), but I'm wondering if it will knock out some of the curl (my hair is 2C/3B).

ReeReeR · 22/08/2019 18:28

I think my hair is 3A/3B but not 100% sure

Inserts pics in case they help or someone can identify for me! Washed last night and been rained on a bit today so not looking their best!

I only use after party on dry hair so don’t find it affects my girls. It smells lovely and gives a nice shine. I didnt think foxy curls didn’t anything notable. It’s the TIGI catwalk curls rock amplifier which is quite defining.

I have also been using a dry oil from body shop for shine and nourishment.

Maybe I need mousse for volume but the Boots curl one doesn’t do much tbh

Also advice on refreshing curls would be good as I try to wash every other day

Started using a satin pillowcase recently to keep mess and frizz to a minimum

Cantu - from boots , you will be surprised. The custard and activator used together in the shower just before tou get out

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/08/2019 20:26

Yy to Cantu. The Palmers coconut range is great for shampoo and conditioners.

bedunkalilt · 22/08/2019 20:34

I like Shea Moisture. I use the Superfruit Complex conditioner to co-wash and the masque in the same ‘blend’ as a deeper conditioner. I use the Black Castor Oil leave-in conditioner after I wash.

For refresh if I feel the need between washes, I use the Coconut Water Weightless texture spray. For daily styling I use the Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk. This works for me, I wash my hair every 3-4 days. I am curly and have thick hair but my hair can get weighed down easily with products, I’ve found Shea Moisture to give me enough moisture and conditioning without weighing my hair down. It also lasts me a while, I don’t need to use loads.

I buy it on Feelunique as I get other products there too, but I think Superdrug stocks some of their products.

Has anybody tried making their own flaxseed gel?just read something about it being great for curly hair.

ReeReeR · 22/08/2019 20:53

I don’t know what Curly Ellie is

I hadn’t heard of Cantu but just looked it up and see there is a whole range

The coconut water spray sounds good

I’m wondering whether I just need to wash my hair daily as it doesn’t look anywhere near as good on the second day

Cantu do a revitalising spray for 2nd and 3rd day hair that just needs a little help. It's good so you dont have to wash every day

ReeReeR · 22/08/2019 22:13

Cantu spray sounds good

Join some curly girl groups on Facebook and try the method. Cutting shampoo, sulphate and silicone has been transforming. Also l follow a few curly girls on Instagram, ad I'm finding technique in applying products is a huge factor!

DonPablo · 22/08/2019 22:25

Trepadora all the way. The papaya slip is awesome. I use one of the primers too, which is great. I can't remember what that's called.

SillyLittleBiscuit · 22/08/2019 22:30

I use Tigi curls rock amplified on soaking wet hair.

ReeReeR · 23/08/2019 09:59

I am not sure about the curly girl method for me as I like my hair and scalp to feel clean 🤷🏻‍♀️ I do like Manes by Mel videos on YouTube

Ah OP I assumed from your posts that you were already CG, so my recommendations were based on that, if you’re not I’m not sure how they will feel.

FWIW I’ve been CG for 9 years and also like to feel clean and hair to feel light, I’ve always used a sulphate free shampoo/cleanser on my scalp and not conditioner (as I find it doesn’t work well for me like that). Currently using a Jason shampoo for dandruff on my scalp, I scrub the scalp with finger tips and wash the length of my hair with conditioner as that works best for me now (hair getting drier following several pregnancies). However for years I used CG a shampoo on scalp and length followed by conditioner on the length of my hair, not cowashing. Charles Worthington does a shampoo and conditioner, think it’s called Micellar, in a blue/white bottle, feels really clean and lightweight. This one: Everyday Gentle.

bedunkalilt · 23/08/2019 11:32

Meant to add, I usually wash my hair every 3-4 days and hair and scalp doesn't feel dirty between washes, I think because the products don’t build up in the same way and you also don’t need much product as well (I found going CG meant my hair was far less frizzy, probably due to no more sulphates drying out my hair, and I don’t get the silicone build up which is what I would really notice before). However obviously it doesn’t mean it’s for everyone! Just sharing in case you were having a different experience with it.

Runneryogi · 23/08/2019 11:35

For shampoo and conditioner, I use Faith in Nature.
Best styling products (I think) are Paul Mitchell’s Twirl Around curl cream and Aveda Be Curly.
I dry it by twirling strands around my fingers and letting it dry naturally.
Mine is very thick and wavy rather than tight curls and tends to get dry and frizzy.
I also love sea salt spray (I use Lee Stafford) as I love beach waves but know that’s a bit of an acquired taste!

SleepandYoga · 31/08/2019 16:46

I love Manes by Mel but not sure I could brush my hair with a Denman brush like she does

I like the Boots curl creme

GileadWivesAreFashionIcons · 31/08/2019 20:37

Adding another vote for Cantu! I use the curl reviver spray and curl activator and they really bring my hair back to life! I only have to wash it every four days now. 🙌🏻
I use Tresemme Botanique shampoo and conditioner and then scrunch my hair with V05 spray which holds the curl in place whilst it air dries and then I scrunch it again to remove the crunch. Day two/three I only need a bit of the curl reviver spray and the tiniest blob of the curl activator to tame the frizz.
