WWW's 6 week 10 year younger plan WEEK 1 with renewed summer vigour Aug - Sept, 2 weeks into term

WideWebWitch · 05/08/2007 20:50

Hello! This is week one of the SEVENTH WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007

( how did that happen?)

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a resuklt. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, especially in this heat
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Anyone who feels like it, post how you've been feeling since doing this and why you want to keep doing it. Add what you want to achieve at the end of it too if you want to.

Here's mine:
I want to be a size I'm happier with by ds's tenth birthday, which is 2 months away. I want to not want to cry when I see the photos.

Oooh, what a lovely start to the day winnie
I agree, 11,000 steps sounds good to me too. Generally managing that and making 8,000 of those aerobic daily, but need to do more I think (and comfort eat less).
Arfishy, I am an expert procrastinator, but I think in your place I would get started now, so you can feel slightly less shifty about partying like mad in the Hunter Valley when the time comes. Welcome back!
WWW, good luck with the household economies. I hate doing that kind of thing. Am fine with it at work - am Spreadsheet Queen of the whole organisation apparently - but useless at home
Duchess, does running after foxes and growling at them work? We have a squitty one who uses our kitchen step as its loo - any tips?
I don't think hopping on a bus to give me time to buy some CDs with my birthday money is really in Boot Camp spirit, but I have Calvin Harris, Simian Mobile Disco and...the Cure's Greatest Hits... in a stack beside me and they are cheering me up, so I hit the happiness jackpot!
Have a lovely day all

Hi all, was wondering if I can join in? I keep seeing these threads but have finally found the first one

I'm trying to lose weight overall but would be nice if I can lose a little bit for a holiday in Sept. Just need to get organised really as I'm v bad at snacking & not eating a proper dinner. Also, am v addicted to diet coke

Oh dear, guess I'm in desperate need of help

motherinferior · 08/08/2007 17:15

The question is: having come home early to tend to poorly DD1 and having made her chocolate chip muffins, do I eat one in motherly solidarity??

New bikini has arrived and I look strangely OK in it - I think - deludedly, clearly - EXCEPT that obviously my norks are brimming out brimmingly from a size 12 top and I can't send it back because of the postal strike and we go on holiday a week on Sat...oh god will have to go topless.

WWW, one of your various emails will have a request for a 'goodlooking woman married to a younger man'. Obviously I thought of you.

motherinferior · 08/08/2007 17:16

Oh and Rosmerta, welcome, you sound truly One of Us

legalalien · 08/08/2007 17:36

Can I join in too?

I made a resolution on Sunday i) only to drink one glass of wine on weeknights and two on Fri/Sat (might not sound like much to you but I normally manage to put away a fair bit more than that; (ii) make sure I cook something proper involving fresh ingredients 6 out of 7nights a week, even if home alone (again, doesn't sound like much but I have eaten a lot of waitrose / m&S ready meals picked up on the way home in the last two years; (iiI) drink a big bottle of water a day (I normally drink none). Am hoping that (i) to (iii) combined will result in my being able to fit back into my wardrobe, and not just wearing the few clothes that are either very stretchy or that I previously regarded as a bit big.....

.. and my resolve is already failing - only day 3!

iota · 08/08/2007 18:14

Am I the only one who feels completely derailed by the summer hols? As I am a SAHM, I now have the pleasure of my children's company day and night (dh is away again), so I am not going to the gym or doing any of my normal stuff.

I have resolved to start again in September and really try to lose some weight before the C word in December.

I have a week's holiday coming up at the end of Aug, which will doubtless involve over-indulgence in food and drink.

Well done to all you swimmers and walkers

Winnie I'm pleased that the date went well

WWW - looking forward to hearing about the economy drive and future house porn. Will you be shopping in Aldi from now on?

motherinferior · 08/08/2007 20:11

I've worked out that the bikini has a bit more coverage than I thought...

....but DD1 informs me my belly is too big for it . Anyone want a six year old? I'll chuck in a four year old free too....

WideWebWitch · 08/08/2007 20:31

DofN, chasing foxes, oh my! So are you still off the coffee? That's loads of sleep at least, you must have needed it. HEy, maybe we'd all need to sleep that early without coffee?

Arfy, welcome back m'dear. lol at harpooned, gosh, I just know you're going to raise the bar AGAIN with yer Sydney fied latest health fad, look forward to hearing about it. Start now, then you will feel ok about wine trip, Marina's right.

Winnie, wow, very, very impressed at swimming at 7am, good for you. I wish I could swim but hey.

Marina, that;s fab if you're doing lots of walking too, even 8000 is a lot, I know, it's over 2 miles, easily. I'm glad you've hit happiness today, good stuff. Ewww at squitty fox...

Batters, that £3k was THREE MONTHS - from May 3rd - Aug 3rd, and hardly any Champagne in there, there's a separate £180 (for the 3 months) to local off licence. so I am ashamed to report that's £1k a month. Actually, it's not all Tesco, some is Waitrose and M&S, anything that was 'grocery' I put in that pot. There are a couple of people coming for dinner sessions in there too and some people staying etc but still. It's going some! 15,000 steps is also v impressive. Ikwym about more sleep, me too, good luck with improving on it.

Rosmerta, of COURSE you can, you're most welcome! I think diet coke comes under happiness so carry on. But try to ditch the snacks. Or at least come and tell uas about them!

MI, at size 12 bikini, ignore dd, she is wrong I bet and I'm sure you look great in it. Thanks for email and am v flattered but so honestly completely do not consider myself good looking and absolutely couldn't face being photographed and in National mag. Maybe when I am 2 sizes smaller but not right now. But thank you for thinking of me, I am indeed v happy with my younger man

Legalalien, of course you can join, admirable resolutuions and very boot camp spirited.

Iota, a week off has screwed me boot camp wise, absolutely. I ate loads and drank most nights last week as I was off but am back on straight and narrow ish again this week. Aldi? Er, No! So far this week my savings amount to £6.60 of magazines NOT bought this eve, when I normally would have done (Good Housekeeping and Woman and Home, gawd, who'd have thought it? But I quite like them!) PLUS I have NOT been buying 2 x Americanos per day @ £2.20 per day, I have been buying 9p hot water and taking my own instant coffee in so I reckon that's nearly twenty quid up so far

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 08/08/2007 20:34

Today

100g granola
a peach
wholemeal homemade sandwich with tuna, hardly any mayo, and cucumber
2 fairy cakes at work
2 chocolates at work
partly because I opened my fruit and it smelled like wine it was all fermenty so I didn't eat it, oh well
3 large mushrooms grilled with garlic butter and tiny amount of blue cheese (dh made it) and carrots and green beans
no wine for THIRD night running

quite a bit of water
sunscreen when I went out for a meeting I had to walk to (only 10 mins each way though, was a stroll)
drink in pub at lunchtime, had lime and soda

No walking though, I'm still seriously falling down on that, MUST get on with it again.

My skin was TERRIBLE on Monday but has started to look much better agani today as a result of healthiness etc.

bamamama · 08/08/2007 20:41

Hey all - bootcamping right out of the window food wise - emptying the fridge means polishing off all the lager left over from the weekends bbq and I am really sick of sausages, still, 2 suitcases packed and half the rest of the stuff in the loft so I'm on track. Sorry my posts are becoming a bit 'big move' focussed but hey! I'll start posting about kangaroos and scary looking spiders soon so there's something to look forward to. Hope all is well with everyone. Hello fellow newbies - bootcamp is your conscience...

rosmerta · 08/08/2007 20:53

Thanks for the welcome!

Well, not a great start as had pizza & a bottle of beer for dinner but will definitely start properly tomorrow! Am glad I can carry on drinking diet coke, though I will try to replace some with water!

Bama - I'm guessing you're off down under? Whereabouts if you don't mind me asking?

feetheart · 08/08/2007 20:53

Feetheart sneaks in late with no reasonable excuse!

Marina - is there any more room in that sack? I also have a 4 yr old DD who can argue, whinge and wail for a living.

Batters - your DD is priceless
Think I'm with you on the Harry Potter effect - going to sleep WAY too late due to reading it then having VERY strange dreams!

Winnie - glad the date went well. Hugely impressed with the swimming too. You definately get a big gold sticker for that

iota - I'm struggling with bootcamp during the holidays too. I don't drink as much water, I eat more rubbish and I can only hit 10,000 steps if we do something energetic like traipse round the zoo! I miss the walk to pre-school when I could clock up 8,000 steps without trying though I don't miss the rush to get up and out on time!

Welcome to the Bootcamp Virgins (and those that have come back again). I'm not sure if this is my 4th or 5th Bootcamp but it has been a real motivator and a great source of advice (Morons and decent moisturiser for starters!) I have managed to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight and stayed there (aided by a 2 week anti-candida diet I must admit) and I definitely feel better about myself for all sorts of reasons.
My main aim for doing something was the realisation that I will be 45 when DD starts Reception in September and I DO NOT want to look like the oldest Mum at the gate (even if I am )

Next mission is to get my hair coloured and styled. I really need help with this one as I haven't a clue. My hair is now long, after a lifetime of being short, and it hasn't been cut for over 2 years Where do I start?

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 08/08/2007 21:01

Hello new recruits!

Chasing foxes and growling does not keep them away as I have seen 2 in the field nearest the house already

I have been swimming today instead of running. Although when I say swimming, I mostly mean pottering about in friends pool watching our combined 5 DCs trying to drown themselves. Friend is currently fatter than me so I am exceedingly happy about that! Ate a restrained lunch with no wine.

Haven't yet had dinner, will just have some soup and try and get another early night. I am drinking coffee again, just a couple of cups a day. Can't live without everything!

MI at bikini. Hate to think what my 5yo would say if she saw me in one - although if it were pink and sparkly she wouldn't notice the bulges or the stretchmarks

yoyo · 08/08/2007 21:24

Had my hair coloured today and am getting it cut tomorrow - trainee did the blow dry and it looks ace. Don't really want it cut now but it'll be last chance before we leave for pastures new.

Food has been very good but wine has already been drunk (not even the mirrors are putting me off). Have not been to gym either as I am trying to wind down before we have to unpack all our stuff next week - aaarrrgh.

Marina - did you watch Rick Stein in Corsica? Thought it was great. Tickled by DS's comment having been watching RS cooking - "Doesn't he have a mother?". DH cooks a lot by the way!

Welcome all new bootcampers and hello to all the regulars (bikini MI? Swimming Winnie? - bootcamp works obviously).

tortoiseSHELL · 08/08/2007 21:28

DuchessofNorks - we've been fox chasing too - our one is BRAZEN - it runs to the bottom of out (small) garden, hides in the undergrowth, peeping out till it thinks we've gone, then comes out again. At which point we shoot it with the hosepipe on full pressure [laughing emoticon]. But it is very confident - it sunbathes on our neighbour's decking .

Hasn't managed to get to the chooks yet [phew] - has had a go, but dh's run defeated it!!!

Not too bad a day - lots of walking with the children on scooters/bikes.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 08/08/2007 21:35

I am having my hair cut & coloured tomorrow. I haven't had it done for at least 4 months so I am very excited (see)!

t/s - it's not a hose you want to aim at that fox!

tortoiseSHELL · 08/08/2007 21:41

Hmm, think the neighbours really would complain if they started hearing gunshots - we live in a respec'ble neighbourhood, don't you know!

WideWebWitch · 08/08/2007 21:44

lol at shooting the fox.

hi yoyo and feetheart. If you don't know where to get your hair cut I recommend finding some woman with fab hair and asking her where she has it done, she'll be pleased and will tell you.

I forgot to add that I had 4 hard boiled quails eggs with celery salt
and a smidge of stilton with a few grapes
and a piece of toast with marmite and another with peanut butter

OP posts:
legalalien · 08/08/2007 22:25

Our fox ate DS's plastic football. DS and I saw him do it. He walked right up to it and bit it, and when we went outside it had a big puncture mark and deflated.

Poor old DS - he keeps telling people that foxes eat footballs and they think he is mad.

Someone gave me a tip for keeping foxes out of the garden a couple of weeks ago, but have forgotten what it was. Will check with DH.

Only one glass of wine and two glasses of water with dinner! And cooked dinner myself!

Three days down.....

ps does running round and round the kitchen island pretending to be roary the racing car count towards the walking total? I do lots of that.

Dead rat def his problem Batters!
I'm always very impressed with your walking total.

I've noticed that my skin is much much much better this morning.

OP posts:
rosmerta · 09/08/2007 08:31

morning all,

slightly better start today with cereal, glass of water & a cup of tea. Am aiming to be out all day with ds so no doubt will get lots of walking in. Will also try to pick up one of those step counters, is that what you're calling a Moron?!

batters, we have a few foxes round our way as well (w London), and the first time I heard them it really freaked me out, I was on the verge of calling the police

winnie · 09/08/2007 08:39

Good morning all & welcome newbies

Not only did I swim yesterday but I also walked 20925 steps 14,000 aerobic. I am feeling very pleased with myself and quite frankly it's all down to everyone here keeping me motivated. Thank you

Second date was ok but we will only be meeting as friends in the future Please remind me of all of the reasons I am looking for love in my life and why all of the effort & false starts are worth it

Am still happy though

Have a good day everyone.
